According to a new study a carb packed big breakfast is a perfect way to diet. It seems that it gives us energy through the day, so that we don't need coffee breaks and big lunchs-----it is working according to the studies. Read about it on MSNBC.

I am off to the kitchen to make a stack of pancakes.

I wonder if Waffle House funded the study ????

I don't know --- carb overload tends to make me sleepy --- I prefer protein packed with lower carbs. But, I imagine different things work for different people.

Being diabetic, I have to limit carbs all day. However, my Doc told me I could go quite a bit higher at breakfast if I pair what I am eating with protein.I am thrilled because bagels from my favorite place were out of the question for a long time. And since I have been doing this, I have lost 30 lbs.

AM,
I agree with AndreaB. When driving those long hours I have very sucessfully relied on a very low/no carb diet to remain fully alert. And it has worked very time.

I recently started the "Atkin's diet", again. I am pleased to report, I have lost 30 lbs. in less than 3 months.

No carbs for me. I have been on the semi Atkins diet for years. Works for me.

And so I find the new theory is not valid. Too bad, I liked the idea.

I have always been a proponent of a big breakfast, small, or no
lunch and an early dinner. No eating between meals and the early
dinner to start shortly after the cocktail hour.

Since I never counted carbs (didn't even know they existed) or
calories, I just went along year after year doing the wrong thing.
I will have to tell the Doctor who asks what I do right what I
have been doing wrong all this time.

Since today is Saturday breakfast has few carbs---Bacon and
Eggs and homefries --------so I will have to make it up with my
Sunday special----homemade pancakes and either bacon or sausages and
lots of coffee. Then Monday back to the grind---Oatmeal, with a banana
cut up into it----coffee and corn bread. Can't wait until next weekend.

Diets come and diets go but never the twain shall meet.

I really think it depends on your activity level-and mine is pretty high-especially where I work( I start at 7 a.m. and am a baker-plus I set up the restaurant for opening at 9:30).So far having a bit more carbs in the a.m. hasnt hurt me.But I guess my question is what do people think high carb is?? I usually keep it at 30 grams per meal-but the occasional bagel sandwich bagel is 60.I am limited to 120 carbs a day, so I guess it isnt that high....

I try to keep my carbs at about 30 per day. I am not always successful but I try. I leave out potatoes, rice, sugar and bread.

Cheese, eggs, meat and my daily evening libations work real well.

30 per day is phenomenal,Paul. But if I did that on the medication I am on,I would be hypo glycemic.Had I practiced what you do, I may not be diabetic today...

I love the post Ancient Mariner. Actually, I should have added eat what you want when hungry.
Drink what you want when thirsty. Go with the flow, don't try to swim upstream, which means don't let events you cannot control bother you.

Enjoy and observe nature as you can learn much from it. Observe animals, as like it or not you are one, being not mineral or vegetable. Avoid doctors, in my experience doctoring can lead to only one thing...more doctoring. Animals do not call on cell phones for doctoring when feeling ill...they settle down and trust nature to heal them. Most of them survive.

Actually, I do look thousands of years old. If you ever run across a painting of Lao Tsu, it would be a good likeness. Perhaps there is a reason I call myself the Grey Ghost.

Sooo we have the ghost of Honorable Ancester Lao Tsu making conversation
with not so honorable Ancient Mariner who shot Al Batross of the Capone
Tong. Verrrrry interesting.

I sure agree with you on doctors Brother Ghost ---- the lovely MaryAnn
has been bounced from doctor to doctor since February----as long as the
insurance companies put up with these CYA practitioners, or take their
computers away and make them diagnose the old fashioned way, we are in
for years and years of medicine by the internet.

What's up with all of these so called "diets"?? Geeze, we eat plenty of fish and lots of vegetables, salads and fruit on a regular basis. Also some carbs. OK, throw in a little sushi now and then. We have not gained an ounce. I still weigh in at 112.

I don't have any special diet. I eat what I like, BUT in moderation. I have weighed in at 150 lbs. for the last 20 years. The only problem is that it has gone south.

I eat the same breakfast almost every day - a bagel with light cream cheese, banana or other fruit and iced tea. I stopped with the bacon and eggs breakfasts about 20 years ago when husband was trying to reduce his cholesterol levels, which he did, just through diet.

When I want to pull off a few pounds somewhat quickly breakfast is key to my weight loss.
I've always done the oatmeal or the like, Wheatabixs during the summer.
Some toast and a hard boiled egg or two then large bowl of mixed fruit.
I'll also snack on fruit all day and have it at the end of my dinner also.
I also have my breakfast within a half hour of wakeing, it dose make a difference with me at least.
After a work related accident I shot up to 335 I'm 6'2" and currently about 260 and slimming down for an up comming couple of weddings and overall health concerns.
If I quit the beer, well I'll just eat more fruit. Works for me.
