Disney Dogs

I searched but did not see any discussion on Casey's in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World. I spend a week there every year with family and friends during Christmas and I could actually just eat Casey dogs only.
There is a pool every year on how many I will eat.

What does everyone else think about them?

It's the only decent food in the Magic Kingdom.

Those are big dogs! You mean you can eat more than two?! We like a lot of the Magic Kingdom foods - we'll have to check those dogs out - I had a great meatball parm. sub there, years ago.

Downtown Disney - Pretzel Dog

I wrote them up in my Disney trip report both last year and this year, but you're right; Casey's should have its own topic, to make it easier to find. Big, meaty, tasty dogs, fresh buns, fresh toppings... the only problem I see is that it has become so popular that there is rarely a place to sit!

True about not being any place to sit. Casey's is the first place and the last place that I hit on my visit.
All of the Disney dogs are the same, except Casey's is the only place that has all of the extras. Onions, relish kraut, etc.
In my 5 days I usually put down 20 at least.

That $5.79 includes fries. I think the price is very reasonable.

its actually a little cheaper without fries although its not listed on the menu. I'm not sure how much. Also, keep in mind that its Disney and everything is expensive.

Just call me the biggest "idot" at Disney, lol

This is weird. What in the heck is wrong with $5.79 for a dog w/fries?

I think the price has more to do with a captive audience than IQ. No different than getting something to eat in an airport.

For me, it is just an opportunity to trade barbs with my forum friend Michael Hoffman; I couldn't be bothered with the actual facts involved, they are irrelevant.

Or brown bag something. I don't know about Disney, but we do that at Six Flags in Gurnee, IL instead of paying their exhorbitant prices for food. It's as easy as getting a hand stamp and coming back in when you're done eating.

I'll pre cook some stuff, put it in a cooler with a pre-nuked hot bag, and fill another cooler with condiments (like chopped onions and peppers and pickle relish) and kool-ade (usually generic, but not always) that I pre froze. One day I'll find a way to keep the kool-ade moving in the freezer so it won't freeze into a block of ice, but more like a slush, which you can make in an ice cream freezer. Until then, I pack two 2-liter bottles of kool-ade and freeze one so it'll thaw by the trip home.

Oh boy, this is going to get good.

I thought a good hotdog and fries at $5.79 was just about fast food prices...for Disney that's a bargain!!!

I don't have a probelm with the price but I don't like the bun being so much bigger then the hot dog. The naked dog has a fairly large uncovered area at both ends. The relish and onion one is the same, although it's skewed to one side.

Now the pretzel dog looks really good from the photos.

The price of the dog & fries does not bother me but if that's a big hot dog that must be a hell of a big bun.

It would be a lot easier to take the $5.79 price if, not only did Mickey himself cook and serve it to me, but also tell me what type/and brand of dog it is. And then maybe treat me to a 2nd, saying in his high, cartoon voice: "Here...this one's on me, ScreenBear."

Otherwise, part of the fun of being a captive audience in an amusement park is eating their food, good or bad, overpriced or otherwise...and then complaining about it...for days, maybe weeks.

$5.79 for the Dog and Fries isnt bad. $2 dollars for the fries and $1.00 for the apple slices leaves $2.79 for the Dog. Remember you are not leaving a tip. Its really not a bad deal...Russ

You don't carry it in at 6 Flags, you leave it in your cooler in the car. You get your hand stamped to leave the park, go out to your car, eat your lunch, and then go back into the park for more fun.

Ah, got it. I misunderstood. Mouse World is laid out differently, you don't park at the Magic Kingdom. You park at the T&T center, take the monorail or the boat over to the MK, then there is a decent walk to the actual park. You can do as Mitch describes, but in the end it might be better to just buy the hot dog.

Seriously tho, as others have said, MH - it's quite typical to see food prices substantially inflated at amusement parks, and Disney is no exception

I don't like paying a premium either, you know, being the cheap b*****d I am, but I look at it like this - it'd take me and the clan 2-3 hours to exit the park, find a good hot dog (or whatever) for let's say half the price, purchase and eat those dogs (or whatever), and come back. I'd rather pay the premium and get more time on the rides (ok, ok, more time in the lines to get on the rides, heh)

In addition, the dogs at Casey's are actually QUITE good, above average in size, and include a lot of free toppings (like fresh sauerkraut) if you want them.

Also, much of the food in the Magic Kingdom runs between awful to mediocre, so finding something actually good is a minor miracle. I mean, you can pay that same 5.79 (or more - much more) for something awful, so naturally I'd prefer something good. Aside: Epcot is the opposite. TONS of good eats. TONS.

One other good thing I have found in the Magic Kingdom: the pineapple ice cream and slushie style drink/desserts at the Dole stall in Adventureland

I'd kinda like to know where specifically in Downtown Disney the pretzel dog came from

The wrapper says "Wetzels Pretzels" on both pretzel pics.
They are part of a chain, located mostly on the west coast, although they've expanded east more recently. There's even one in the Freehold Raceway Mall in NJ

They tend to be located in high-end malls.
There is even one inside the Rio casino in Vegas.
I had the pretzel dog there a few times; it's decent..

They're usually not very strict on that rule. You can't lug in a cooler but they never have a problem with insulated lunch boxes tucked into backpacks. My good friend always brings sandwiches and snacks for her daughter and there has never been a problem.

Personally, I love the Disney hot dogs. Most of their food is pretty good now, they've really improved their quality over the years.

I'll agree with that.We've found some of their restaurants serving top quality meals.....California Grill is award winning!!!

The actual Disney dogs are pretty big, like at Casey's. I can barely eat 2 at once. So I think the price is reasonable imo.

Especially during the Food & Wine Festival...grazing heaven!

Back in my days of going to Disneyland I didn't appreciate good food like I do now. I've been to Disney World 3 times since March of 06 and have had some very good food there. I love Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Akers House in EPCOT and many other very good places in EPCOT.

Oh yeah I too like the dogs at Casey's.

This place was great...years ago we had the Princess Breakfast...my daughter was thrilled!!!! Good breakfast,too, as I remember!!!. Norweigan food served all the rest of the day!!
Love the Country restaurants at Epcot...Rose and Crown in England....the German Restaurant...The French one...Alfredos...all serve quality food!!!

Just want to add my favorite bang-for-your-buck in WDW...The Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney!

And that's the bottom line. That sandwich may offer the best bang for Cavendre's buck, rather than mine or Michael's, but it's his (her?) money, and spending it where he chooses makes him a consumer rather than a moron. The fact that he doesn't spend it the same way I do is his business, not mine.

And, as Adam Smith noted, if he gets it, he charged a fair price.

If he doesn't, you lose your bet.
