MetroplexJim-
Thanks for the tip on Metro 29 Diner and the Jeo-Yan Shrimp at Peking Gourmet.  We do have plans to go back to Northern Virginia next weekend and a visit to Peking Gourmet is #2 on the list of things we must do.

The star attraction on the menu and the reason this restaurant packs them in is the Peking Duck, which is what Mariton ate. One of the cool things is that they actually slice it right at your table.

The girls recognized the older man from years ago. I imagine he has sliced quite a few ducks in his time.

The plate of duck meat looked like

Since Johnny and I were unfamiliar with the process, Mariton and Emilou showed off their expertise. For those that don't know, which included me until recently, you start the Peking Duck meal with a pancake and put some of the provided sauce on it.

Many thanks for all the great trip reports, I really enjoy them.  But just a note about the Peking duck, the skin on that one just is not what I would expect from a properly cooked Peking duck.  You can probably google some pics, but that is definitely an Americanized Peking duck at least from the condition of the skin....I would pass on that one.

RodBangkok-
I will most definitely take your word for it, since you undoubtedly know much more than me on the subject.  But, since my girlfriend loves the place and otherwise goes without complaint to every bbq parlor and pie shop I can drag her to, this is a small price to make her happy.

Thanks for the kind words about the trip reports.

Your quite welcome and its all relative, I could tell you some real horror stories about what is called American Breakfasts here in Asia that for the locals seems a real good meal!

Cheers

Thanks for the great reports, I am headed to Arlington in Sept for my Uncle's funeral at Arlington Nat Cem.

I have a list of places to visit and some good eats to get me thru the day.

CK-
Always glad to hear from one of Roadfood's best posters.  Sorry to hear about the passing of your uncle.  I have never seen a funeral at Arlington National Cemetary, but I bet is something you will never forget.  Have a safe trip and happy eating!
