Sad news to report, the Little Mexico Cafe on Grand Rapids West Side has burned down. The West Side has 2, well had 2, decent authentic Mexican food places, now we're down one. Hopefully they'll rebuild.

The cafe has always been popular for its neighborhood bar atmosphere, good food, original art work and murals painted by artist Bill Bouwsema to represent the Aztec Indian civilization and Morales' heritage.
For a time, it was a popular place for dignitaries to visit.
Former Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, dinned with a local family at Little Mexico while campaigning in Grand Rapids in October 2000.
And former President Gerald R. Ford, Gov. Jennifer Granholm and singer Willie Nelson were also counted as customers.

There is another great Mexican place on the west side also. It is in an old gas station and it had a chicken sign on it. Does anyone know the name of it?...Russ
