Hot Toddy's (with a link to other recipes......

Californyguy's thread on fall food, got me thinking about cold weather drinks, and I just love hot chocolate and chambord..
We used to call hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps, "Hot Schnockolate"

Although, Winter in Key Largo on the recipe list below, sounds REAL good..but maybe a tad sweet.....
Oh heck.. they all sound good... and I am here sweating in Florida!

I googled around trying to find the name of it, and came across this website..
Its a good one for many drinks...

Here is the link to all their recipes..

Got me thinking about whisky toddies, as well as hot buttered rum. Not cold enough for either yet, especially the latter.

I'm a fan of hot drinks especially in the fall and winter.
Sake' is a big favorite (hot rice wine). I also make the German specialty Gluhwein - a hot, spiced red wine. Thanx for the links.

Any interesting variations on hot buttered rum? Or hot scotch with lemon?

My grandfather(who lived to be 101!!) had a hot toddy every morning before breakfast. My grandmother's recipe was:

    i jigger of whiskey
    lump of butter
    spoonful of sugar
    hot water

He always said that the toddy kept him "regular".

Adding butter to a whisky toddy is logical, yet I never thought of it. Will try it and report the results. Whisky, lemon, sugar and butter seem to be naturally complementary.

My dad made me one when I had a bad case of lyringitis. It knocked me out and I woke up with a very bad headache and stomache ache. He claimed it was what granny made for the family when they were sick with colds or severe coughs.
His concotion had a base of tea, a healthy dose of honey, a jigger of rum and a jigger of whisky. couldn't finish the think I think I drank about a 1/4 to a 1/3 of it before I said enough. He made this concotion right before I went to bed. I didn't do much good still woke up not being able to talk and just felt hung over.

I always add milk to my Hot Toddy just to make it "smoother."  Room temperature Madeira is also a favourite body warmer during a winter breakfast.
