Adam's Rib Barbecue - Thu, 09/18/08 11:24 PM

Adam's Rib Barbecue is on US-35 on the western edge of Eaton, Ohio:

According to the owner no one's ever complained about the food.

My "Hog Dog" and a pulled pork sandwich. The Hog Dog is a smoked sausage split and filled with pulled pork, and topped with barbecue sauce, shredded cheese, and onions (which I declined):

2 of us had Hog Dogs and 1 had the pulled pork and we liked them; me personally because the sauce seemed to be a fairly typical Midwestern sauce and it didn't seem to be overly sweet or ketchupy. "Ale 81" (pronounced "a late one") is a regional ginger ale-type soda from Kentucky that's been around for a long time and got its start as a supposed hangover cure.

Al,

I did a whole lot of research to find an Adam's Rib in Chicago. I concluded that it was a fictional place.

I'd love someone to prove me wrong.

Brad - I want that hotdog.

We have an "Adam's Rib" here is Gainesville, used to be Dunkin Donuts. I haven't been there yet, I find it hard to visit a place that has no wood pile or at least smoke coming from the place. Hear tell it's not too bad, the mac and cheese and greens are first rate. They have "Catfish Friday's" which I'm told is also good. The meats are just "okay".

The Chicago outpost of Adam's Rib referred to in that ancient episode of M*A*S*H is in fact fictional. Wish it weren't true, but it is. Sorry.

Dearborn 5-2750 was the Phone # for Adam's ribs, although the streets do intersect, the adam's ribs in Joliet has never been proved.

There is an Adam's Ribs in Riverdale, IL a chicago subburb, but it is not close to Joliet.

Last Thursday I paid Adam's Rib a visit and learned that the fire was actually pretty small and damage was minor.  It'd been 3 years since my last stop and since then the dining area has been expanded with a small addition on the back, but everything else is pretty much the same.

The deck is a great place to eat when the weather's nice.

This time I had the brisket and it was definitely worth the money ($5 for the sandwich and $1 for a soda IIRC).  It was juicy and reasonably lean but with a little bit of fat, just how I like it.  My friend Jim also had the brisket and each sandwich had a single slice of smoky, crusty fat so I don't know if that was by design or merely a coincidence.

Meet Adam, AKA Pete; he was taking chickens off the smoker when I was there.  According to a friend of mine who works in Eaton he and his coworkers eat there fairly often, so business is apparently pretty good.  At least I hope it is.

Hey Brad,  Looks like a killer sandwich for 5 bucks!  No sides?

Thanks for the update.

I think the comment was in jest. Look at the picture on the far right. Now look up, see where the complaint department is. LOL

Nope, no sides as we were only a couple of hours removed from our lunch at The Tamale Place in Indy and this was more of a snack to hold us until dinner.  I didn't pay very close attention to the menu board but I'm pretty sure beans, bagged potato chips, and maybe a couple of other options are available.
