did you know that if you eat candy corn and salted peanuts(at the same time) it tastes exactly like a PAYDAY candy bar- and costs a lot less!

It's been awhile since I stole candy out of my kid's Trick or Treat Bags, but I would go for items they didn't care (as much) for. Mounds and Amond Joy, Welchs junior mints, and some carmel stuff would get turned over to me voluntarily. In some cases a little slight-of-hand was used to get me a Goo-Goo Cluster or two and Mallo-Cups were MINE.

Today we get only one or two trick or treaters and with no kids of our own at home things are "Less Sweet"

Someone mentioned Popcorn Balls in a post above. That made me think of all the home-made treats we got in years past. We used to look forward to foil-wrapped fudge squares and Brownies, popcorn balls and candy apples. Not so these days. I would discourage any of my grandkids from opening any homemade treat they receive unless we know the 'direct' source and trust the giver ! Way too many dangerous items are 'shared' these days. I hope everyone will teach their children to be careful about those things.

I LOVE CANDY CORN or the CANDY PUMPKINS

We give out little treat bags made from the halloween ziplocks, usually 5 or 6 fun size candy bars, not the minis/bites, and some sort of trinket from (Oriental Trading Company)

This year it is squeezable skeleton heads, when yo squeeze them the eyes pop out and stuff pops from the ears.

Just remember candy fans DO NOT EAT TOO MUCH or YOU WILL

The candy corn that's shaped like pumpkins, moons, black cats, etc., and popcorn balls. Trick-or-Treating was fun as a child, but I'm not sure how it is these days.

Roasted salted pumpkin seeds. I don't have a sweet tooth.

Butternut squash, and buttercup squash seeds are equally good this way.

Butterfingers! And (when I can FIND them,) miniature Clark bars! They have a 'lighter' texture than Butterfingers. There's a Wal-mart about 10 miles from me and is the ONLY Wal-mart which carries the Clark bars, and only at Halloween. I usually buy about 4 bags.

So funny! I remember NEVER touching them when I was a child. They looked 'yucky' because they were wrapped in the boring wax paper, and the peanut butter 'coloring' was gross looking. I avoided them like the plague.

I FINALLY tried one about two years ago (as I was 'sifting' through DD's unwanted Halloween candy.) I must have been hungry or something, because they actually tasted GOOD! I like the 'bit-o-honey' texture. I wouldn't go out and buy them to hand out, but I won't toss them in the trash anymore if my DD receives any again. LOL!

Mellocreme harvest mix which is candy corn, pumpkins, etc.

There's a variety pack I get at Wal-Mart that's deadly, I've only seen them at Christmas and Halloween, and it's a mix of minature Reese's, York peppermint patties, and Hershey's milk chocolate. I keep them in the refrigerator, and am already on my second bag.

I really like Halloween candy, especially candy corn, but it's hard on my teeth. Try the new Candy Corn Hershey kisses, which just kind of melt in your mouth.

I love bright red candy apples, but don't see them much any more. Seems like caramel apples are more popular.

I don't know what it is, but nobody out here in WA comes trick or treating anymore. I buy candy and nobody comes. Seems like all the kids go to the mall now. I kind of miss all the ghoulish kids coming around. Guess paranoia set in. I used to walk for miles and was never accosted or molested, never got razor blades or contaminated stuff. Just lots of Smarties, nickels, dimes, pennies, religious pamphlets, homemade popcorn balls, a colorful assortment of sweet stuff.

I didn't know it until this year but they have a name - "Mary Janes". They are also probably my favorite Halloween candy - I could never eat the candy that they make candy corn and other shapes out of - ewwww.

Years ago when they made minature versions of mallo cups and smoothies those were my favorites. Banana kits and bb bats ran a close second.

Regular grocery store sized candy bars usually is was Snickers or Milky ways.....maybe only one house had given them out..... but when they did you were amazed and thought that house was "rich" because they were NOT giving out the mini sized ones.

My kids are so picky about candy, I usually ended up with most of their bags. I bought them all the kinds of candy they enjoyed, and would swap out the stuff they would not eat.

My oldest son gave up trick or treating, very young. He enjoys being home, and handing out candy and gift certificates, to the kids.
He is a tough cookie, about it. All the kids have to describe who they are dressed as, and how/why they came up with the idea. No written essay.

Oy! My youngest still want to got out for the treats. I had to tell him to give it up! My goodness, he is 17.

Lucking into the house that had the Russel Stover goodies, is always a good thing.

Funny, you only see candy corn around Halloween and there are actually people that DO eat that stuff LOL.
I can't help but think of the comedy routine that comedian Lewis Black did on candy corn where he claimed that all the candy corn in the U.S. was manufacured in something like 1921 and it has since been passed from house to house ever since then as no one actually eats that stuff.
Sort of like a Christmas Fruit cake. Come to think of it, I got the fruit cake last year. Now if I can only remember who I have to ship it to.

My favorite always was the Clark Bar but you hardly ever see them around anymore

Anyone remember Mary Janes? They're from the same company, Necco (for New England Confectionary Company), that makes Necco wafers. Sort of a peanut butter taffy with molasses instead of corn syrup.

I loved the fruit flavored candies when I was a kid more than the chocolate ones. Though I loved both! Mostly they were hard candies then, I must have been 12 or so when gummy candies started to be more common. I could have gotten away with trick or treating much longer than I did. 5 feet tall, in a costume, who was to know I was 17 and not 11! I quit going out after 8th grade though.

Here's where I get mine: http://www.necco.com/OurBrands/Default.asp?BrandID=1

While NECCO doesn't do online sales, they have links, not including yours, to stores that sell their product line online.

Now & Laters, Jolly Ranchers and Laffy Taffy. Scared to eat that stuff now, My Mom always said some Dentist must have invented it to pull the filling out of your teeth.
