Ultimate Milkshake

Lets hear your recipe for the ultimate Chocolate shake, or any flavor.

Milk, syrup, mixer. That's it.

I thought the dude with the restaurant that served breast milk had the Ultimate Milk Shake. Just express and make per Michael H recipe.

Micheal, Your New England heritage is showing thru with that recipe. I will never forget ordering a Chocolate Shake when I first arrived at Ft Devens,MA back in 1960. I received a cup full of what Micheal just "made". Thin whipped flavored milk. Where was the Ice-Cream I asked???? Oh, You want a Frappe, said the young lady. I learned the difference rather quickly!

This particular fountain item is the sterotype for all the debate over the influence of the 'chain' places vs the regional or local menu items. Shortly after I first arrived in New England we saw the influx of the FF places (you know the names). The term "Shake" was used to describe what had been a "Frappe" and "Soda" seemed to replace "Tonic" rather quickly as well. The "ER" was added to "Hamburg" and "Franfurt". This all happened in a few short years in the early 1960's.

The cultural impact took a bit longer. In 1963 I went into a McDonalds in Lawrence, MA on a Friday Evening and ordered a couple of Cheeseburgs. The girl at the counter looked at me in horror. She tried to remind me, politely, that it was "FRIDAY NIGHT", which went right over my Southern Californian, Non-Catholic head. The PC thing to order were the Fish-Sandwiches at that point...but I was not attuned to the fine points of "CYA" at the time !!!

For me it is a Black and White shake... Some Whole-Milk, 2 Large scoops of Vanila Ice Cream and one scoop of Chocolate Ice Cream (Hard Ice Cream as opposed to Soft-Serve). A couple of fountain squirts of Hot Fudge (Chocolate syrup is a poor second choice) and then onto the mixer-machine. Pour a 12 oz glass full, but their better be enough in the Mixer cup to refill that glass one (full) time. Top with a squirt of Whipped cream and a Cherry.

I don't like overly fussy milkshakes so for me just strawberry or raspberry milkshake syrup, whole milk and some vanilla ice cream mixed in.

I agree with Al.
Maybe a scoop or two of Malt.


And you know its correct when ice forms on the outside of the Stainless Malt Cup.

I used to love the Malt added to my shakes, but somehow I don't "handle it" as well as I used to...so I now skip that step !!

Al, in Connecticut when I was growing up a shake that had a scoop of ice cream mixed in was called a freeze. A shake with a scoop added after the shake came off the mixer was called a float. You got a spoon with a float to eat the scoop of ice cream.

Mmmm, a chocolate 'malted milk'. If you are in an are that has a Steak-n-Shake restaurant, they have a Dark Chocolate milkshake. It just doesn't get much better.

For me I like to add vanilla syrup and some sugar to the vanilla ice cream and whole milk.

Next time you make a Vanilla Shake take a McDonalds Apple or Cherry Pie cut it into six equal pieces and drop it in the mixer for the last 10 seconds or so...Russ

i like this one that they serve at the tick tock diner in clifton, nj called the "elvis" shake. it has vanilla ice cream, peanut butter, and fresh bananas in it, which makes for a surprisingly light and flavorful shake. the waitresses all seem to get mad when me and my friends order it at midnight though.

Do whatever you want but, for the ultimate shake, use half and half instead of milk. pb

1 cup milk
1 tsp sugar

Here, if you have a milkshake, and I have a milkshake, and I have a straw. There it is, that's a straw, you see? You watching?. And my straw reaches acroooooooss the room, and starts to drink your milkshake... I... drink... your... milkshake!

Horlick-malt made in Wisconsin-added to french vanilla ice cream and Hersheys chocolate sauce.

Paradise Pup in Desplaines, IL. serves up a Very Raspberry shake to go along with their Merkt's cheddar burgers. It uses a raspberry puree which is laddled into ice cream with a heavy hand. After blending, another laddle is dropped on top. It is raspberrily fantastic!
