Rutt's Hutt Relish

Do you like it and what does it taste like? It really looks different. Can someone break it down for me and describe what is in it? Has anyone tried to duplicate it? And does anyone have the recipe? Or there own version?

    Hi Russ ,

    I had a thread on this topic a few months ago if anyone wants to check it out .
    I have tried to duplicate it and there are many theeories . I happen to like it so much I could eat it like mashed portatoes on a side with dinner but thats my taste.

    Thanks I searched Rutt's not Rutts. Doesnt look like anyone gave any real suggestions. Did you ever figure it out Benzee?

    it's certainly more sweet than sour. I only just started eating it, after 20 years and countless hot dogs. I'll try to reverse engineer it when I get back there.

    Ah, yes relish. When I worked at a pickle factory in the late 1970's (Gedney) in Chaska MN, when I was 16, they made relish. Relish is made from the pickles that do not make it as a pickle. But their relish was always great. So were their pickles and condiments. During High School I worked there and they really did a great job letting me work there during the summer months and fall football practices. Gedney was good to me and they do have a great product. My kids love the pickles, and yes, I still buy and eat Gedney products...I took some time, but after my Environmental Science degree years later, I realized that the process that Gedney used was very good and the products was great. My son will eat Gedney pickles like candy...all kinds...me too. We bring the products in the woods with us in MN when we hunt. Deer season is only weeks away. Baby dills are looking good.

    Has any one worked at Gedney. When I did in the mid to late 1970's, I palitized the boxes. Great job. It let me know that college was in my future.

    I found this recipe for Rutts Hutt Relish online....old clipping including the name and if you google the address listed it comes up rutts.
