Stanhope, N

"VOTED BEST WINGS IN 57 STATES BY 2 GUYS AT THE BAR"

I will concede that the wings at shakey jakes are delicious. They never claimed to have amazing buffalo wings, so I shouldn't have expected them. The wings were crispy and large, the perfect combo for a great wing. The sauce? What sauce? The bottom of the tray the wings were in was occupied by a terrible, awful, horrible watered down version of tabasco. The wings were plain, with no sauce sticking to them at all. It was a travesty. Avoid unless you enjoy your wings without sauce or bring your own.

Avoid chain restaurants at all cost. None of them serve decent buffalo wings.

According to weather.com there's a Stanhope, Iowa and a Stanhope, New Jersey...my guess is the OP is referring to NJ.

And a quick Googling confirms that NJ is correct.

If anybody noticed in his post, he typed Stanhope, N and forgot the "J". So yes, the correct answer is New Jersey.

Maybe he meant some sort of "Regular" wings were delicious. Indeed a mystery.

Well cooked wings ... Lousy, poorly executed, sauce was my take on it.

I haven't been to a Buffalo Wild Wings since 2003. However, while they do make other wings that are not Buffalo wings, the buffalo wings I had were very good. However, lord knows what has happened over the last five years. All I know, is that they were good then.

Does anyone know if Santora's in Las Vegas is still around?

They had the best wings. Of course they were my first back in 1981.

Haven't found any, anywhere as good.

AGREE !!
I like the "mild" sauce to have just a little kick, and be nice and buttery...
In other words, I like the sauces to be true to their name.
In south Florida, I had the "mild" sauce at one joint, and it should have been labeled "HOT"!

But in this Stanhope case, it sounds like this place just called it "WINGS", so they are off the hook.
If they called them BUFFALO wings, then they certainly better have a good sauce to go with them !

I've seen 3 descriptions for wings :
1. Wings
2. hot wings
3. Buffalo wings

While I too applaude the use of the correct pronoun when refering to the supreme deity, you can throw the rest of the chicken away and just give me the wing, whole, naked, and deep fried in beef tallow till crispy, seasoned after frying, sauce on the side to be added so as not to make the wing soggy. I don't mind them served sauced or sectioned if they're fresh fried but I don't like them breaded with sauce.

Ever have a baked wing? After all, it is Halloween in a couple of days

Now if you're talking southern fried, then it's all good.

In the 90's, Buffalo Wild Wings in the Old City used to be okay, but when I used to go there, there was no competition so it was that or no chicken for you.

I have had wings at the Anchor in Buffalo. Make that wing. I agreedto taste one. The taste was fine. But it was a wing. I don't eat wings, necks, gizzards or the part that goes over the fence last.

Nah, I don't like the bits either. I do make, so I'm told, a nice chicken liver terrine with lots of rosemary and a bit of orange zest and cognac but the other bits, no thanks.

Good for you though, a taste is all that should be expected.

I would definitely have to include Dominos wings.  They're some of the only ones I ever had that I just had to put down because I could not eat them.  Just really fatty and greasy.  I didn't expect perfection but I did expect them to be edible.

On the way to Florida one time, had a order of Buffalo wings(so the sign said).
Dusted in Cayenne pepper. Gross! I do not like cayenne. Never ordered the Colonel wings since.

Buffalo wings - I've had the ones at Hooters and, believe me, once was enough. Highly overated ( and not worth bothering with. ) The wings at Buffalo Wild Wings are good but not great, and the same can be said for the Beef O' Brady's chain. A Wing Stop location just opened here in Lansing, and they're pretty good, but I can get much better by crossing the state line into Munster IN and going over to
Buffa-Louie's. This is a tiny mini-chain; besides the Munster location, they're also in Valparaiso IN and Bloomington IN. I love their wings; their medium-heat buffalo sauce is really tasty, and the wings are meaty. Great onion rings and a very friendly staff. I was there just last night, and as usual, they did not disappoint. Highly recommended!                                 Bob

If you can find the time, the upcoming Roadfood tour of Buffalo in September would be a great time to catch a break from the SC heat and replace it with some heat from the Anchor Bar wings.  (Trust me, I know about the heat from growing up in eastern NC.)  You would really enjoy the food here that weekend.

Looks like I'll miss you all by a week or so. I'll be in Buffalo for the Wing Festival the 4th-7th. Can't wait to try Anchor and Duffs, as well as some other local spots. Not to mention the actual festival...

I had wings at Buffalo Wild Wings last night, undercooked, almost nonexistience sauce on them. I don't understand it, none of the chains in Texas, cook them til they are crispy and even when you ask for a lot of sauce, you might find a small puddle in one corner of the container. When I lived in cental n.y., they filled the container with so much sauce, they had to saran wrap around the container so it wouldn't leak out and. the wings were always fried til they were crispy

With one major exception (Dinosaur BBQ) I wouldn't ask for Central NY foodies to give me good BBQ. Why should Texans be good at Wings???

I think it is a regional specialty !!! Can they be done everywhere, Sure they can !  Are they ?  Nope !

In my area of Florida virtually every restaurant, sports bar have wings on the menu. Unfortunately most of them aren't very good. The only way I really like wings is Buffalo style and the best I've found around here is a chain called Hurricane Wings and Grill which probably has about 40-50 locations around Florida. I did find a couple of local places that did wings but didn't care for either of them. One of the local places recommended by a friend only had some funky teriyaki sauced breaded wings . I did make it to Anchor a few years back and that's been the gold standard for me ever since

If I'm going to kill an animal to eat it I'm damn sure going to respect it enough to eat every bit of it as I can, including organ meat.

In CNY/WNY, many of the pizza places make the best wings. That's where Dominos got their idea in the 80s. But it's definately a regional thing, because here in DC I haven't found one pizza place that makes good wings. There aren't many good (delivery) pizza places either! I sure do miss home on football days.

We went to Pluckers today. It was like they put the sauce on them before they cook them. You don't need a napkin because sauce doesn't get on your fingers. That seems to be the norm in the dallas ft worth area.  Even if you request a lot of sauce, there might be enough to get one wing wet. I'm originally from central NY where after cooking them, they toss them in the sauce and then pour it all into the container then they have to triple wrap the container with saran wrap so the sauce doesn't leak out. When you eat them, you use numerous paper towels, then wet naps.

It's Limp Lizard... I work a few blocks away, which is also a few blocks away from the Dinosaur in Syracuse. If I want bbq, I go to Limp Lizard. I agree with the other posters that Dinosaur has gone way down in quality, and I won't go there anymore after the past few terrible meals that I'd had there. Waiting over an hour for a table to get ice cream scoops of mushy, cold pork, fatty, grizzly ribs, and dried out, chewy brisket? No thanks. I won't even buy their sauce anymore since I found out I can get Brooks bbq sauce up here.

Back on topic, I've had wings all over the country, and they can't rival what we have at a lot of the local pubs and restaurants here. They're all a little different, so if you're in the mood for a particular flavor, you have the option. Wild Wings is a place we go to A. drink beer B. maybe eat some wings.

Well with all the Dino trashing going on, I can say I believe the Dino serves the best chicken wings around. Brined and smoked and finished on the grill, I order the hoisin sesame wings once a week for lunch. I still dine at the Dino once or twice a week and haven't noticed the big decline everyone talks about (place is still packed...but then on one goes there...its too crowded).

I have been sampling the Lizard and they do some things very well (great chili), others not so much (brisket being one of them)...have yet to try their wings. The more the merrier I say.

As far as the worst wings...hands down the Pizza hut wings I got at a party a few weeks ago...mush on a stick..

I agree about the Dino wings, I used to get the Wango Tango wings and those were never bad. But based on my other experiences, I just can't eat there anymore. Once bitten, twice shy as they say.

I never understood the whole "Buffalo Wings" bit.

It's just chicken wings. Can be bought anywhere on Earth. Hell, you can get them in North Korea.

Put the chicken wings in the oven or fry them.  Add sauce, blue cheese, bbq sauce, whatever. Use celery if you want to. You have chicken wings.

I can see a place having bad chicken wings, but chicken wings themselves are difficult to muck up.

I have had wings at the Anchor in Buffalo. Make that wing. I agreedto taste one. The taste was fine. But it was a wing. I don't eat wings, necks, gizzards or the part that goes over the fence last.

For a slight extra charge Hooters will serve all drummies.

Generally I avoid Buffalo Wild Wings for value reasons.  The last time I was there I had the "lunch special": six skinny wings and a tiny salad which was served on a plastic plate which my plastic fork kept sticking to.  "All that" and an iced tea came to $14, including a tip for drop it (foof & check) on your table "service".

At the Buffalo Wild Wings in Westminster, MD, you can get all drummies for no extra charge.  Usually get a 'six free wings' coupon a few times a year.

I do my best to avoid any place that serves the wings of chickens to human beings.

Too bad Five Guys doesn't serve wings.

That way you could avoid two things at the same time!

Buffalo Wild Wings opened today in Daytona.
I could hardly wait...........for another chain place to open that I WON'T go to.
just like Joes Crab Shack that will probably open on the pier in Daytona.
an article in the local paper quoted one of the principals in the company saying "we specialize in fun". not a thing was said about the food.
thats great, a resteraunt  exec NOT mentioning the food.
