Who Makes Your Favorite Slider?

Fried on a griddle the older the better.
Served on a soft greased steamed bun from right off the grill.
Thicker good quality American Cheese melted completely. Grilled diced onion and peppers cooked in the hamburger grease. A couple pickle slices on the plate.
Reasonably priced and should take at least three to fill you with fries.

My all time favorite is Bate's in Livonia Michigan at the corner of 5 mile and Farmington. I grew up on them and went there last weekend for the first time in 5 years and they were still exactly the same as always. Saturday afternoon at 12 and it was standing room only with a long line at the carry out.

Honorable mentions would be Crabill's in Urbana Ohio and Benjamins in Dayton...Russ

Hmm...just may have to give them a try. Is that in a decent area? Sorry, not too familiar with Livonia, but it's not THAT far away. Haven't found any good ones in A2, except for White Castle of course...

Russ, Believe it or not, the only sliders I ever had were at White Mana in Hackensack this year. They were...alright.

I ordered three sliders. After eating the first one I realized I should have ordered doubles. I doubled up the next one myself, it was much better but just...alright.

Someday I am going to seek out a White Castle and give them a try.

Growing up in NY, my favorite used to be White Castle. We would go at least once a week. When we went on vacation to Florida my Uncle would take us to Krystal, which we hated, because we were White Castle people. I moved to Florida a few years ago and was craving some White Castles so I figured I would give Krystal another try. I was very hesitant! Well now I'm a Krystal person and eat there almost every week. I went back to NY for a visit not too long ago and stopped by White Castle, it wasn't as good as I remembered. It might have been the White Castle I went to, it was a new one, not the one I always went to growing up. I'll try it again on my next visit north.

Best ones I EVER had was Royal Castle... But alas, only a couple left, and none remotely near me.

So, I have to make do with Krystal, but actually will get some at Beef O Bradys in a pinch every so often.
Only they are hit and miss and too big to be called real sliders.......
I miss the smell of those onions on the flat top!

As I continue on my price increase rant, I went through Krystal the other morning, got three Krystals with cheese for $3! What?!?! I love those things but my gosh. My kids get DOUBLE cheeseburgers from McDonalds for a buck. I was unaware that Beef O'Brady's had them, it's been some time since I've been there and that was for beer and wings. I guess I just don't get out enough.

    mland,

There are not any White Castle in Dallas but there is a Krystal in Carrollton @ 2670 Midway. When it first opened a few years back they had lines wrapped around the building and police directing traffic...

Thanks. I was sitting here in Plano trying to think of something different to have for lunch. It is about 10 miles, but I was heading sort of that way this afternoon anyway.

I think what threw me off at White Mana was the potato roll. I thought it was way too heavy for the size of the burger. I would eat there again, but would stay with double burgers.

Does WC use potato rolls also?

Since I live in Indiana I have a White Castle fix every month or so- double hamburgers with brown mustard and a side of onion chips.

However, the best sliders I have ever had were at "White Steamer" in Washington, IN. White Steamer has been at the same location for years- a small narrow storefront in downtown Washington. The grill is located right by the sidewalk window-you can stand outside & watch &n smell the hamburgers being grilled( the grill looks like it has been there for about 100 years!). The slicers are classic- steamed buns, hamburger, pickles & grilled onions. Also, the shakes are great- served in the metal shake container with a glass to pour your own.

no white castles in seattle, but after watching a youtube vid of the process i've made some myself :) i made no attempt to make them square or as small as a true slider, but they turned out pretty good anyway. dehydrated onions seem to be the key, fresh ones tend to burn...

Growing up in Detroit, my favorite was Greene's Hamburgers, on Seven Mile Rd. & Schaefer. And does anyone (or at least anyone from Detroit) remember Top Hat? It was similar to White Castle: little burgers for 5 cents.
