Well, I gave Scott's a try today. The decor reminds me of Interstate BBQ in Memphis in some ways; it looks like the restaurant is a family affair, if the various family portraits adorning the walls are any indication. The staff is very friendly and seems very happy to be there.

Unfortunately, the food itself is merely adequate. I ordered the Thursday lunch special, which was a pulled pork sandwich with fries (or coleslaw) and a drink for $5.99. The generous portion of pork had no trace of smokiness to it and was slightly soggy, and the fries were fine but nothing special. Sauce is served on the side. The menu advertises "Big Bob's BBQ Sauce" (if I remember correctly), which meant nothing to me. It is nondescript and a bit thin, not unlike a store brand. The sauce at Goodies is much better.

I found prices overall to be a bit high, and there are little to no discounts on larger portions. A full slab of ribs is $19.00, with a half slab priced at exactly half of that. Three "whole wings" cost $3.00, and the total price drops five cents for each additional three. (The menu lists them in increments of three, topping out at 30 for $29.55.) Sides (except for fries, at $1.50) are $2.00 for a regular portion, $3.95 for a large. "Potatoes and onions" is the only side item that seems a bit out of the ordinary, but I didn't try anything other than the fries that came with the special.

The 9 oz. "Scotty Burger" could potentially be a deal at $4.50 depending on how well it's prepared. No toppings are listed, so I have no idea what comes with it, or what's available for it. The Friday special features the Scotty burger, fries, and a drink for $6.99...which is the regular price for these three items if you purchase them individually, so it isn't much of a special.

I was disappointed overall, but plan on trying the burger at some point. I will be driving the extra few miles to Jim Dandy's if I get a hankering for barbecue in this area.

I had so many plans today that did not play out {for many reasons, too many to explain}, but, I ended up having lunch at Tink's in the Gaslight Village of Clifton. It ended up being a great lunch {albeit, maybe a bit expensive for fellow Roadfooders}.

However, I ended up with exactly what was I was looking for!! I started looking for a breakfast containing GRITS [which is hard in itself in Cincy], the weather [and some other unmentioned influences]kept me from my breakfast plans.

I knew that Tink's had shrimp and grits on their dinner menu [from an ad I'd seen], and decided to stop by. Reading the menu on the window, they had a chicken, shrimp and tasso gumbo, with white cheddar cheese grits on their lunch menu.

I was SOOOOOO much in the mood for grits. It was just one of those days. The gumbo arrived, with a mountain of creamy, cheddary grits in the middle. The shrimp were few and far between [as well as a tad overcooked], but the gumbo had just the right amount of spice; the tasso was salty, the chicken cooked appropriately, and just the right amount of good okra. This is exactly the way I like it.

I was tempted to ask for hot sauce, and bread, at the start of the meal, but neither were needed. I couldn't help but notice that the grits were so creamy, and garlickly, and cheesy, I was tempted to ask for an order, by themself, to go. Maybe next time.

Tink's offers many options under the $10.95 I paid for my gumbo and grits, but it was well worth what I was looking for today.

Noble Roman's made a go of it around here in the mid 80's. They bought out the local Godfather's franchise, then proceeded to completely screw things up. They were closed within two years.
I didn't think the noodle thing was going to work. NBN was interesting, and my dad and I enjoyed it, but the rest of the family nixed a second visit. I can't say they'll be missed. (Out of sight, out of mind.)
So, how's everyone been? I spent the night catching up on the last few months, so I'm at least up-to-date. Glad to see that I'm able to access the site from work again.

In a similar vein, they used to have prawns with white cheddar hominy on the dinner menu, which were unbelievable. I owe my wife a nice dinner for her birthday, so perhaps we'll check out those grits. (She's from the South and can't understand why so few places around here even serve grits, to say nothing about preparing them properly.)

CADILLAC RANCH DOWNTOWN-BOUND

One of the changes coming to downtown in June will be the new Cadillac Ranch Rock-N-Country Bar & Grill. It will move into the former Hallmark store at Sixth and Walnut streets. This will be the second location of a Nashville restaurant that serves smoked ribs, steaks, bologna sandwiches and chili dogs, has a mechanical bull and features country music and classic rock. The 8,325-square-foot restaurant should open in June.

I did some walking up and down Main street on Friday at lunchtime, and can add some things to my previous "walking around" report

First, the remodel of the old Patoshnik's has reached a point where the marquee is up on the front "Papa Joe's Kickin' Chicken Fingers and Fries. I guess these are supposed to be pretty good chicken fingers and fries if that's all they're selling :-) There is still paper on the windows, but I am guessing they'll open soon.

The Union Station Cafe with the "closed for water main break" now has a real estate for sale sign in the window. Guess the water main was the whole issue, as I had expected.

Manna Vegeterian is indeed closed, which is a shame even for a non-veggie like me because it also housed the very promising "Embrace Sweets" which served up some very good baked sweets - black and white cookies, brownies, lemon squares, and the like. Notably, the note taped to the door says the owners *might* decide to go back into businesses after concentrating their time on some of their other businesses for now. No signage is down, and all the tables, counters, and equipment are still clearly visible there. So there is some hope here.

The short lived Guido's italian buffet is also closed, no signs of life inside.

Sivad, the very promising hole in the wall soul food joint on 7th, still has the "we'll reopen April 5th" sign in the window. Not open two weeks later and the weather is fine, not a good sign.

I tried the "fresh mozzerella" pizza at Donato's. Not so good. No clear difference (tatse or texture) between a regular pizza and a fresh mozz pizza from there.

Word in the paper is that the Phoenix Cafe (more of a hard core, dark, smokey, drink-all-day bar, really) on Walnut between 5th and 6th will be closing for good soon by government order due to much criminal activity there. No big loss. It's location will probably be snapped up quickly as it is directly across from the nose-in-the-air Aronoff Theatre. I'm guessing we'll see yet another formulaic vastly overpriced yuppie bar/pub/restaurant in the space by this time next year.

Although the Uno's Pizzeria is re-opening after a long absence in the Beechmont mall (now rebranded as Anderson Crossings Towne Center) the Uno's downtown remains closed. I would have thought someone would have bought the prime restaraunt space by now. Odd.

I had a GTG with a bunch of folks at German Cuisine in Elsmere, KY at lunchtime today.
There was about 12 of us and luckily the gathering was hosted by a friend of the owner.

I had the curry wurst (available as either a brat or a mett) which came on plate with 2 fresh sliced brats (or metts), great curry sauce and a hard fresh German roll. Good stuff.

The Jager Schnitzel was fantastic as well, and the hot German potato salad and potato pancakes (with fresh applesauce) was totally worth the trip.

Yes, they are a butcher first and foremost, but they have 2 seating areas to eat the goodies and German beer is in the cooler.
I took smoked garlic German frankfurters, homemade goetta and an additional bag of curry wursts home with me for a tasting this week.

I’ll keep you posted.

I assume it's reopening as an "Uno Chicago Grill" like the one at Union Centre, which was by far the worst of them when the Clifton and downtown locations were still open. Apparently, that's the direction that the corporate office decided to go, focusing less on pizza (which put them on the map) and more on a "neighborhod grill" like Applebee's.

From what I gathered from former employees, the owner of the Clifton and downtown locations didn't agree with the move, relinquished his franchise tags to keep the restaurants pizza-specific, and changed the name to Za. Unfortunately, even though they kept the pizza selections mostly the same, their "homemade" dough didn't compare to the dough they received from Uno's, and slow business at the downtown location caused the death of both locations. It appeared to me that the Clifton location could hold its own, but I guess that wasn't enough.

I'm curious to see if Papa Joe's Kickin' Chicken Fingers and Fries is similar to Cane's/Guthrie's in the South. Chicken fingers is all they do, and they do a fine job of it. There is a Cane's in Columbus in the OSU vicinity, but they haven't been worth a 200 mile round trip yet.

I lunched at the City BBQ Location in Hyde Park plaza today, and had an excellent (if a tad pricey, but all local BBQ tends to be pricey) lunch of a simple pulled pork sandwich and their skin-on fries. I thought the fries were some of the tastiest I had ever had, with crunchy outsides and a creamy inside on the full-sized pieces. The pork was a little dry but passed the "doesnt need any sauce to be good" test. Still, it was improved measurably by the addition of their smokey in house sauce.

I'd encourage anyone local who hasn't been to one of the two locations yet to check it out.

Should the nightclub open, it would feature hamburgers, sushi and Latino fare. Ruby would like to open by early 2008, if plans move forward.

"I think it's going to be awesome," Cranley said. "The trend in all major downtowns is to have a vibrant entertainment district. When you have people like Ruby and Bootsy involved, I think it's the right chemistry."

Cranley said no city subsidies would be involved in the project, but designs would require the approval of building inspectors and architectural review boards. Cranley is hoping to speed that approval by getting eight members of City Council and Mayor Mark Mallory to sign the ordinance.

Bootsy Collins is one of Cincinnati's most famous musicians, a funk specialist whose career began as a 15-year-old session musician for Cincinnati's King Records.

Ruby is a well-known Cincinnati entrepreneur, whose seven restaurants include the Waterfront and the Precinct. Cranley said the two have been talking about a joint venture for about seven months. While no lease is signed, Cranley said both are committed to the project.

The Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. might invest in the project, said Steve Leeper, president and CEO of the nonprofit development group. Leeper said the Cincinnati Equity Fund, a loan pool for downtown projects, financed the construction of the Uno's property.

Leeper said Tuesday that the site is courting two potential tenants -- a nightclub involving a local celebrity he declined to name, and a Mexican restaurant.

A source familiar with the development said the restaurant is called Calico Jack's Tex-Mex.

I walked by the Uno's/Za location on Ludlow Ave., and there was a sign on the door that said a new restaurant/bar called Olives would be opening soon. No other information was given.

Tried a new Chicago hot dog place in Symmes Township on Montgomery Rd. Place is called hotdogginit and is located in a little strip mall area by Kyoto, Skip's Deli and what used to be Ben and Jerry's(now Cheezburger Cafe, which I will have to try as well). People who started it are Chicago transplants and have had over 300 Chicago natives come to the restaurant in the 6 weeks it has been open. Tried the Chicago hot dog, the polish and some fries. All very good, served hot and quick. Also, you get a complimentary soft serve for dessert. I would call the place cheap, but quality was good. $3 for a dog, $4 for polish, $1-2 for side of fries. Also have italian beef and italian sausage that I will have to try. Think there was burgers and chicken on the menu, but why get that at a dog place. For those who like Chicago style all beef hot dogs, give the placce a try. Also, if someone has the beef before me, let us know.

I agree. There are plenty of good restaurants in CIncinnati. I know it costs a lot for booth space, and it is very labor intensive to run the booth for the weekend, but there should be a way to include smaller businesses that cannot afford it like Carraba's and Outback can. I don't think this a fair representation of Cincinnati food.

Again, here is an opportunity for the "City Fathers" to help Cincinnati's small business community and, at best, they do the minimum. If you have 2 or less locations and you seat (in total) no more than 50 you should get a substantial break on booth space (free would be nice). Also segregate the "chains" away from all the locals and do not include them in the voting.

There has been a Noble Roman's/Tuscano's restaurant open in West Chester for a couple months now. It is located in a small shopping strip near Jag's. Believe Cornerstone Cafe is on one end and a Skyline sits out in the parking lot. Stopped in with the family and got a large 1 topping pizza two orders of breadsticks and a 2 liter of soda for $15. Pizza wasn't like I remember as a kid(no thicky chewy crust on the end), but more of a traditional hand tossed. Breadsticks and cheese sauce were as good as I remember though.

Also, went back to hot doggin it to try the Italian Beef and Italian sausage. The beef is a large sandwhich that was well worth the $6. The italian sausage was good, but not nearly the value at $6 as well.(If you do get the italian sausage get it on the poppy seed hot dog bun instead of the italian bread as the italian bread is too much for the sandwhich.) After two visits I definitely would recommend the Italian Beef and a hot polish dressed like the dog. The dog was good as well, but I enjoy something with a little more kick. Wouldn't call the place cheap, but quality was worth the price.

There was an article in this week's Downtowner (no online edition is available) that says there is a new business specializing in Pot Pies (really awesome pot pies, based on what I read) on the 900 block of Vine, which is the block just north of the Main branch of the Cincinnati Public Library.

I was able to squeeze in the time to walk up there today :-)

I picked up a regular-sized chicken pot pie (offerred everyday for 5.95 alone, 8.00 as a combo with two sides) and a small sized chicken broccoli alfredo (a special, one additional type of filling asides from the chicken is offerred each day) for 2.25. The regular pie is more than enough by itself for lunch, but I wanted to try the other, and it's a heck of a long walk :-)

In a word - fantastic. Best pot pies I have ever eaten.

I recommend everyone who can get downtown give it a try

The owner still answers the catering number listed in the old review (513-235-2400) and when I called to compliment him on the pies and ask a few questions, he told me his hours right now are limited to 11-2, with hopes to expand if there's enough business to justify it

TJ, sounds great. Do you happen to know their hours? Are they a lunch-only place?

Suburban Dad, a co-worker who is a Chicago transplant raves about hotdogginit. He has been on the hunt for an Italian Beef sandwich since he moved here, and finally found one. I have yet to go, despite my wife working a couple of miles from the place.

Also, I spotted what appeared to be employee orientation occurring outside the new "Roosters" spot in Springdale yesterday. If they aren't open yet, they will be very soon. I'll try them for lunch in the next week or two and will report what I find.

Sadly, PJ's closed recently. I last ate there on Good Friday. When I came back a couple of weeks later, all of his signage was gone and his fixtures had been removed from his side of the Shell station. He was there quite a while (5-7 years) and pretty much ran the place by himself. I'll miss him. Those Chicago dogs were the real deal.

I stopped into Jordan Valley for a schwarma (think: a gyro with grilled spiced chicken in place of the gyro meat) and had a nice chat with the owner, Ned, while I waited. He's expanded the menu a bit with some interesting new choices and plans to start offerring daily specials soon

I ate the schwarma back at my desk, and it was quite good - very moist and flavorful, with juices leaking onto the paper wrap

He also said there is a new Gyro place over in Delhi across from Delhi Chili, opened by one of his former employees, and that he's seeing customers converted from Sebastian's. If true, wow. Got to stop over there and give it a try.

As I seem to be all parts of town at all times these days, I did swing by Sebastians a few weeks ago for my gyro fix. It was 7:00pm on a Tuesday and the line was still 10 deep. Luckily I wanted mine to go and did not have to wait for a table. I always think "soup nazi" (but Gyro stye) when ordering.
I'll keep an eye out to see what the competition brings.

I have an emergency request. Does anyone know of a good Indian restaurant in northern Kentucky? We are meeting someone from Walton for dinner tonight, and he has expressed a desire for Indian food. We've eaten at both Taj and Apna, and have also gotten carry-out from Taj.

We were disappointed with Apna. We ordered some Indian restaurant standards: mixed appetizer platter (pakora and samosa), chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, and stuffed garlic naan. The masala sauce was the best thing. The chicken was sort of rubbery and made me wonder if it wasn't under-cooked. The tandoori chicken was very bland and had an odd taste. The appetizers were nothing special. The waiter brought us the wrong bread. It was stuffed, but it didn't taste like garlic. I think there were raisins in it but I don't see a bread like that on their menu. We won't be returning.

Taj was the better of the two. Let me say that I am just grateful that there is a decent Indian restaurant in N. KY. Taj isn't as good as Mayura was back in the '80s. We've eaten in quite a few Indian restaurants in the U.S. and in Europe, and Mayura was one of the best. That said, all the food we've had from Taj has been flavorful and appropriately cooked. It is where we will continue to go to get our Indian fix.

Sandy, good to know. Dinner plans were unfortunately cancelled last night, and it doesn't look like we'll be able to reschedule for a few months!

We will be going to Taj once our schedules permit, however. We aren't in the Florence area very often, and with at least six Indian restaurants within a few miles of us up the hill in Clifton, we likely won't make a special trip south on our own. Mayura is far and away our favorite of the bunch, despite numerous people saying that the quality has dropped a bit. We weren't living here in the 80's, so it sounds like we missed out!

The Jackson 4 stopped in for a bite at a little "mexican" joint called Tostados (http://tostadosgrill.com/). It's in a building that once housed Kreimers Bier Haus, within an easy stone's throw of the Precinct.

I say "mexican" because the name strongly suggests the cuisne, but what we found on the menu was a mishmash of tex/mex, italian, american, and german items. A very weird menu, for sure. One that did not inspire a lot of confidence that what we'd get would be of good quality.

Nothing we had was particularly good or bad, all text/mex, not worth mentioning, really, but asides from mediocrity this is the kind of neighborhood place a roadfooder wants to like, and it was a bit subpar, and despite that, the prices were rather high. 5.99 for a dessert, for example. 12 bucks for a single chimichanga. That sort of thing.

One pleasant thing happened: my oldest (5 and a half year old Elisabeth) is starting to ask for some of our food, pushing aside her kiddie meal items (your typical grilled cheese, chicken fingers, etc) in favor of the more sophisticated items. She politely persisted with this request, and had some from my plate and from her mother's, and announced she liked them both. I'm looking forward to the day when I can pick out a restaurant for the 4 of us without worrying about them offering "kid food"

If so - according to the signage, CK, they plan to open "in the spring of 2007"

I really don't agree with most everything "Polly Campbell" has to say. Reviews are weak, and often so off-base, that most restaurants she reviews as "great" are closed within 6 months. The ones she gives a "bad" review are often ones I like. I take "her" opinion with a grain of salt.

However, I do think the "Foodie Blog" is worth reading. There are some other opinions, and it is updated daily.

I agree, that as a "critic", she should check out RoadFood and Chowhound more often {at least, for the Cincy points of view}.

The reviews {at Cincinnati.com} of Vinyl are still great, but it is more a late night party place, with expensive, lackluster food. Sometimes, I think the reviews are based on "who knows who", and not necessarily the quality of the food. Basically, a "who schmoozes who".

Years ago, I worked at Barleycorn's on Sixth St., above the Maisonette & LaNormandie. My regular customers were the staff from these restaurants, and I listened to all of their stories. I have waited on Jean Robert DeCavel and his wife. They were great customers. "Polly Campbell" has, of course, given him good reviews, but he is not a "schmoozer", by any sense of the word. His work {personality, character, etc.} can stand on its own.

Speaking of Jean-Robert, dineoutoften.com reports that "Jean-Robert de Cavel is planning to open his fifth restaurant in Over-the-Rhine at 12th and Vine streets. It should be open by the end of this year. It will occupy an older, narrow building next to the Duncanson Lofts condominium project, and might feature a rooftop garden."

They also mention that "Chanaka Delanerolle, who owns Teak, Mount Adams Fish House and the Celestial Steakhouse in Mount Adams, has bought Watson Bros., the former microbrewery in Blue Ash. He plans to open it this summer as an Asian restaurant called Apsara."

I noticed that the former Phoenicia location in Montgomery will soon be home to another Mexican restaurant, Los Portales. Signage is up, and repainting has begun, but I am not sure when they will open.

Finally, the Roosters location in Springdale is now open. My boss is going to treat me to "a snack" for lunch today, and I think I'll suggest that we go there.

First time poster, long time reader. Thought I'd start throwing my two cents in. Made the trek from Fountain Square up to Tom's Pot Pies today. I went for the large chicken for 5.50 with no offer of sides, but they had a dessert pie and a small chicken alfredo pie for 2.50 as well.

The chicken was pretty good, but a little heavy on the pepper for my liking. But overall a great alternative to a fast food joint for sure.

I was actually out to venture up to Jalapenos on the corner of seventh and Elm but they are apparently shut down already. Does anyone know if this is permanent?

Great postings - really enjoy the honest critiques of the area's dining.

I was able to squeeze in the time to walk up there today :-)

I picked up a regular-sized chicken pot pie (offerred everyday for 5.95 alone, 8.00 as a combo with two sides) and a small sized chicken broccoli alfredo (a special, one additional type of filling asides from the chicken is offerred each day) for 2.25. The regular pie is more than enough by itself for lunch, but I wanted to try the other, and it's a heck of a long walk :-)

In a word - fantastic. Best pot pies I have ever eaten.

I recommend everyone who can get downtown give it a try

Coincidentally, I went up there for pies again today myself, and the owner (Tom Wolfe) mentioned another roadfooder had come in and talked about the website - so that'd be you :-)

Today, I got three minis - the standard chicken, broccoli alfredo, and cherry dessert pie. All very, very good, particularly the broccoli alfredo. I don't generaly like cherry pie (but my alternative was his apple crisp, which includes nuts, and my stomach doesn't tolerate nuts well) but I liked this version.

He says he is still working on new pie recipes, but will only offer the new recipes as mini-pies until he sees more demand for the other types. He also said he had considered offering a large alfredo, but decided it was just too rich and heavy for that size.

There was a woman sitting at one of the few tables there when I arrived, eating a pie....what else would one do there? :-) I certainly wish I had greeted her - I generally try not to disturb other diners - turns out it was Polly Campbell (for out-of-towners - Polly is the primary restaurant review critic for the local paper, the Cincinnati Enquirer), who I'd honestly love to meet someday. I emailed her today on another matter, and as an aside, recommended she try the pies at Tom's - and she replied back that she was there when I arrived! Turns out she also has been reading this thread on occasion :-)

Following up on Jalapenos - looks like they were here and gone before anyone had a chance to miss them. Article is from the Cincinnati Business Courier.

"Citing a lack of business, the casual Mexican chain Jalapeños has shuttered its downtown Cincinnati location, just three months after opening.

The eatery, which specialized in fresh ingredients and made-to-order dishes at a walk-up counter, closed May 9. It employed six, said owner Martin Lucero.

His other locations, in Sycamore Township on Montgomery Road and in Northgate Mall, are still open.

"We weren't doing anything so we closed it," Lucero said.

He said that an Asian restaurant operator has taken over the lease, but did not have details."

Pappadeaux is the last man standing outside of the cinema in Springdale. Bahama Breeze has closed.

I did end up going to Rooster's on Tuesday. They're clearly targeting bw-3 (er...Buffalo Wild Wings), and have a very similar menu (in terms of both content and price), which can be viewed online. It's very heavy on wings and sandwiches, although they only offer about half as many sauces as bw-3.

We were told to "sit anywhere we like" when we walked in, and the waitress promptly came to take our drinks order. Unlike bw-3, there is no confusion about whether you need to order from the counter or from the waitress. She was very attentive until the end of our meal, when she seemingly forgot that we needed to pay for the meal (which wasn't a huge concern, since we had some work-related things to discuss, anyway). Overall, service was pretty smooth, considering that it was only their second day open for business.

I got the breaded chicken fingers, which weren't bad. The coating was very crisp and crumbly, but the chicken itself was slightly overdone. I'm not sure I like the consistency of the sauce, which is a bit thick for dipping. (I chose to get it on the side, but you can also get your fingers, wings, etc. tossed in the sauce.)

The layout is very open but looks very cheap; walls, floors, and most tables are unstained pine, and there are small white signs with silly quotes in black lettering everywhere. I much prefer the overall look of bw-3, but both places are well-suited to watching games and making noise. My boss kept commenting that it would be a great place to come for a beer or two after work. I'll have to reserve judgment on that until next time, when I can actually sneak a peek at the beer list. All in all, not a bad place, but not worth a special trip since it doesn't offer much more than your local bw-3.

Yeah, Bahama Breeze was also closed in the wave of Smokey Bones closings....both in the Darden Restaraunt group

I wasn't aware the Italian place (Karlo's? something like that) had closed, but am not suprised. My job before my current job had me in the big office building right next to Pappadeaux (which was stll being built when I left that position) and my coworkers went to lunch there on a coupon deal, and STILL ended up payin after coupon over 10 dolalrs each for lunch. Never returned.

Is Rooster's in the old Bob Evan's spot? or where Bargo's/Bennigan's was? I don't get up that way much....

Walked up to Court Street to see if Poppa's was open yet in the former Patoshnik's spot, and they were...have been since Wednesday

Poppa's Kickin Chicken Fingers and Fries is all Chicken. Fingers, wings, wingettes (drummettes?), nuggets, and two chicken sandwiches - one regular, one barbeque. If you don't like chicken - deep fried chicken - don't bother :-) The limited menu also offers your choice of 3 sides (fries, salad, slaw), biscuits, and some kfc-style parfait bucket desserts.

The fingers themselves are fairly good, if a bit dry. They coat the chicken breast pieces with some sort of hot spice - hot to my limited tolerance, feeble to those of you who like really HOT spicey food - and then battered and deep fried. It looked like they had about 5-6 pounds of these ready to serve next to the deep fryer when I arrived.

The fries are skin-on, wedge cut, and battered. Oh yes, more fried batter :-) I thought they were pretty good, with creamy insides. The cook told me these came in battered, so they are some sort of commercial grade, but still, pretty good.

The biscuits were small and reaonably tasty, but really nothing special.

So - not bad, not great either. Patoshniks....I miss you even more now

TJ, I am over at Pappadeux's more than I care to admit meeting with clients as that is often their pick. Word is pappadeux's bough the karlo's bldg last year after karlo's bugged out and is trying to sort out what food establishment in their lineup fits the locale.

As for Rooster's, I believe it used to be a Pondersoa steakhouse. It is to the south of the BenniBargos place. I pass it at 4:45am every dadgone morning on the way into the office.

I drove by tonight and the signs were down and the building dark. I doubt even Jean-Robert could make a go of this space, too bad.

TJ, Roosters is in the old Bob Evans spot. Bargo's is still there. I wasn't aware that Smokey Bones went down as well...never did make it to any of their locations, but it doesn't sound like I missed much.

jjjr, the way I heard it, the Pappas group bought out Karlo's in order to put one of their own restaurants there. I'm not sure which version is true. I have always liked Karlo's, but lunch can get a bit pricey. They are a fixture in the Entertainment book, however, which means we can both get dinner for under $20 at least once a year.

Nope. Design, engineer and build specialty secured mobile civilian vehicles for the Secret Service, State Dept, DEA ,as well for many many foreign gov'ts and officials throughout the world. Ya gotta get up early to stay ahead of IED technology and the goofballs who set them these days.

There's lots to eat in Gahanna, incuding the four-way with onions I had the other day at Skyline. I'll tell you what, if you'll buy me a beer and a cheeseburger at the Cricket, I'll be there in a flash. No excuses, now. Otherwise, I'll just have to go up the road about a mile to Graeter's for a cone.
