For the past week I could not post messages, reply, check pm, view online messages, even the Roadfood sign in the upper left wouldnt appear clearly, I switched to Google Chrome and have been problem free and my pages load up much quicker.

Working here.

Now can you help me track down the SOBs who hacked my email account yesterday?

Buddy

OHHHHHHHH

So it wasnt you that sent me the MoM Porn pics or the email to join the bacon of the month club.

I visit both those sites regularly (frequently at the same time), but I almost never share.

The recent spate of bugs and issues that have been plaguing this site have been going on for months. People have posting their issues the whole time and not much seems to be getting fixed. So, there is a part of me that feels a bit like I'm spitting into the wind, but here goes...

It would appear that one of the side-effects of the duplicate postings is that I am now missing some posts contained within threads. For instance, in wanderingjew's latest trip report, I show six duplicate posts on the first page. I know that each page contains 30 posts. So, I am getting 24 original posts and six duplicates. When I click on Page 2, it would seem from the discussion that I have missed an installment from WJ that others are commenting on. Is it possible that his post is, say, #28 in the thread (counting only original posts), and when one clicks on the second page of posts, that page is slated to begin with original post #31, but for me is lost in the void because the duplicate posts change the post count in the thread?

I have tried logging out, clearing cookies and logging back in. That changed nothing.

Steve....Buddy, let me help you out here.

1st, you are correct in your assessment.  What you need to do is delete your entire friend list.  Which by the way was a major PIA for me because I store phone numbers and other contact info there.  Reload your friends, another PIA.  This should stop you from seeing the double posts.

And if my assessment is correct, which it usually is, this debacle was brought on by a software upgrade that allows this site to cater advertising based on your internet searches.

Edit:  Also, if you hit the backspace button, your text gets smaller(see above).

Joe -

That does, indeed, solve the problem. It is amazing how many work-arounds you have to know to get this site to function properly.

As for the issue of ads, while I realize that many web sites derive some revenue from the sale of advertising, were the ads not so obnoxious, I would have never installed AdBlock on my browser. I visit too many pages where the content-to-ad ratio is severely out of whack. Instead, I now enjoy a pleasant Internet browsing experience and don't have to worry about things blinking at me, or taking up 70% of the viewing area....and, if the ad software is targeting me with ads based on my search profile, God bless 'em, because I don't see a one.

Bug report for current major thread: Where to Eat >> Cincinnati and N.KY. Thread is broken 2013/05/16 12:39:51 (permalink)
I have a very clear bug to report.

In the "Where to Eat" section, the very active "Cincinnati and N.KY." thread reports several new posts but the newest post has been frozen at the one made on 05/8/13 at 2:57 PM. I keep seeing updates for several new posts to that thread, including at least one on 5/15, and the thread view doesn't change. I've tried navigating to the last page using every available means, including clicking through the page number links, and using the "most recent" link arrows.

I'm not talking about a post numbering discrepancy or even a duplicate post issue. The problem here is that new posts aren't visible. Yes, I've done the deleting cookies, log in and out, and clearing cache stuff.

I've been seeing a lot of updates to threads on the Roadfood home page that -- when I click on the link -- take me to a thread whose last entry is years old.  If this was a one-time glitch I wouldn't bother to complain, but it's been happening a lot.

Re:Post your bugs and issues here... 2013/05/19 21:40:21 (permalink)
Hello,
I have two glitches to report.
1)  I am following Dale's Seattle trip report.  I made a remark about his amazing dim sum, but it never showed up on the thread.  Then, someone responded to my dim sum comment.  I know because I got the email notification about it and they quoted my comment.  So I know my comment made it; I just cannot see it.  Nor can I see the poster's response to my comment within the thread; I only know about it thanks to the email.  Now the plot thickens....I received an email indicating another installment from Dale on his Seattle post.  But I cannot see that either!  It is like I can see three pages or part of three pages, then nothing.
2)  I have also noticed that several people - including me - show double posts when posting or responding to a thread.  I remember when this happened not too long ago, but I thought it was not an issue any more.
I hope you can help with these matters.

Thank you!

Now I have so mething to add.  It has to be my computer at  home.  I am easily able to see all the posts form my work machine; and no duplicates either!  That's funny since my home machine is new and more up-to-date.  Anyway, if you know of what settings might cause problems for a Windows 7 machine, please let me know.  I am sure it is only a matter of pushing the corrrect button somewhere.  Thanks!

ANNOYING POP UP ADS at the bottom of the screen......when I'm trying to view from my phone. They keep poping back up as fast as you can close them out.
Is it just me? Roadfood is the only site I have issues with.

Re:How to Edit Messages with Photos 2013/06/05 12:16:44 (permalink)
I have noticed a spate of new users who post nothing but messages that echo previous messages, or off-topic pretty meaningless messages, in poor English. It is my belief, from past experience, that they are just posting to get their total high enough so that they can start posting links and start spamming. I would not be surprised if, regardless of where they say they're from, their IP's are from Russia or China. Now, of course, it is certainly not impossible that they are legitimate new members. When I see a message like that, I look at their other messages; if they are all the same kind of non-messages, I am flagging them.

I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing, here?

First, my apologies, I am new to this...posting questions 2013/07/07 17:31:54 (permalink)
I am new to this forum and not sure how to do an original post, rather than a response. Again, I apologize for posting here. Please share with me the proper place and way to post a question.
I am a new food truck owner having huge issues with my refrigeration unit: freezing up, not holding temp, etc. It's about to take us under if I cannot find a solution. We've vented, have fans underneath, etc. Are there any other solutions or alternatives (perhaps mini fridges with a cutting board on top, but how would I have cooled sandwich prep item holder?)  This is the only thing holding us back from permanent status with the HD. I would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions from those of you who have been there done that and can help.

I can help you with posting.
  1. Open home page and scroll down to the “Latest Forum Conversations” box.
  2. At the bottom of the box, click on  “Show me all unread topics”.
  3. That will take you to a page that has a toolbar at the top and one of the selections is “Forums”.
  4. Click on “Forums” and that takes you to all the general topic headers.
  5. Scroll all the way down to “Restaurant Professionals Forum”  and click on the first topic header, Restaurant Professionals Forum. That’s where all the Food Truck People hang out and can help you with your problem.
  6. In order to post your questions, look to the upper left of the page for the title, “Post New Thread”, click on that and post your questions.
  7. Welcome to Roadfood!

You can just copy the link to your "posts since last visit" page save it as a favorite or to your desktop, and click on that when you want to get there.

On the iPad with Safari there is an extremely annoying pop up advertising bar at the bottom of the screen that jumps around and is jittery. It is so distracting I seldom visit Roadfood.com when on the road and my iPad is my primary source for communication. No other message board i use is as obnoxious. This board is not friendly for mobile on the go users. Mobile friendliness is also why it is much easier to post photos and communicate on Twitter and Facebook.

Website suggestion 2013/10/13 13:22:58 (permalink)
I don't know if this is the proper spot for a suggestion as it is not a bug, but here goes. I like the idea of having an embedded Google map with the reviews, but all you can do with them is to zoom in and out. How about making this map clickable to take you to a full version Google map of the review's address. This would give us all the capabilities that a full version map offers that we cannot do with the current map set-up, such as get directions to this location, save or send to email or GPS, search nearby, switch to satellite view or street view, etc...

Thank you for a really great site,
Stan...

Windows 7/Internet Explorer.
I posted in the "Where Should I Eat" thread, Cincinnati Version tonight. I kept hitting "post message" because it did not seem to be posting the message. It says on the main forum page that I posted a message 58 minutes ago, but it is not showing on the page. I thought it might show up later. That is way I checked now. I still cannot see my post, and when I do, it will probably show up four times, since I kept hitting "post message".

I strongly suggest that the rules be changed to not allow a new poster to create a thread until they have done say, 20 legitimate posts. That would weed out the spammers who join and then immediately post threads selling credit cards, fake ID's etc.

Re:How to Edit Messages with Photos 2014/04/05 17:05:57 (permalink)
April 5, 2014 around 4-5pm

I logged in to respond to the Cincy Chili Crawl thread. I could read all the posts when I wasn't logged in. When I posted my last post, I looked to see what CajunKing posted (post 570, on pg. 19). It was supposed to be the itinerary for the crawl.

When logged in, I saw a double of TJ Jackson's post. Both of TJ Jackson's posts were marked post 570.

I kept trying to find CajunKing's post, so that I might reply to when I may be able to meet up with the group, but I couldn't find the post.

I then logged out, and looked for the post, and there it was.
This also happened when looking at the Cincy forum on the "Where Should I Eat?" board today.
