Felix, I strongly advocate you delegate your application to the current version of Internet Explorer.  The variation you get is over 7 life old, and doesn't reason numerous of the stylish JavaScript standards.  I am not sure if you can get IE 7.0 with Windows 2000, but Firefox is another unloose choice which is probably braced.

I seem to be having problems searching for Lancaster, PA.  When I type it in, or just Lancaster, I get the error 403 and Access Denied, Not Authorized.

I was searching near Millersville, PA (and found a post for a cheesesteak place), but I keep getting kiboshed on the search word Lancaster.

Here is the what comes up:

403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.

I've been getting the same message when clicking on links to past forums.

There are a few words you can't search on for security purposes, and I am pretty sure Lancaster won't work because it contains "cast," which is used by hackers.  Sorry...

Try THIS.

Due to roll over into new forum software, it is often a better way to find archived posts.

If you click on "My Roadfood" right under your name while signed in a page with various options will open.

Be sure the box is checked next to "Put me on your mailing list. (Spam Free!)" and I believe that will get you the newsletter.

Stephen...please correct me if this is wrong.

PLB, check this same area to be sure the "mailing list" box is checked.

Is it possible the message/newsletter is getting filtered out or sent to your junk mail folder? A lot of updates to the same mail handler you may have been using for years will alter or reset junk filters and "throw out" things you may have gotten in the past.

The newsletter comes via this e-mail address...

emails@roadfood.com

You may want to add that address to your contact list and see if that lets it through. Of course if you just aren't getting it sent at all, that won't help.

Mine goes to my junk mail filter but I usually catch it and transfer it over to my inbox. One of these days I will fix my filter and correct Roadfood and several others that I get that way that I almost always transfer over. Usually the Facebook notifications go to my junk mail but I don't open or read them and just make a mental note to go to Facebook and read them there.

IVYHouse, it seems the issue is with AOL, which occasionally likes to block mass emails from us until we tell them we are legit.  We'll contact them, but it wouldn't hurt for you to do the same.

I can't find any other way to send suggestions to the webmaster. I am a new Insider and am disappointed to find that there are no links to the websites of any of the restaurants listed in Roadfood. I realize that maintaining links is a pain in the neck, but for $20 a year I'd expect you to at least try, the way many free websites, e.g., Google Maps, do.

Richard, what information are you looking for on the restaurant web sites?  We list them whenever we add restaurants, so it's quite possible they don't exist.

Is anyone else getting "Knocked Out" of threads you subscribed to for getting instant notification?
I've subscribed to a number of threads and I'm getting deleted from the thread. I only find out that I've been put back to a non-subscriber if I go on the main page and pull up the "Show me all the previous topics" page only to notice there are threads that I subscribed to but never got an email notification. Then I need to click on it and have to re-subscribe. I've been knocked off the same thread several times.

Can you fix that Stephen?

Yes, I subscribe to threads and never get notification on some. On others, they stop coming after a few posts. Then once in a blue moon, I'll get a new post from a thread years old. I've given up trying to figure what's going on!!!!

Thanks, Stephen.  I am not sure how AOL comes into play for me, though -- my email account is with Yahoo, and I access it either through work (not using AOL) or home (Verizon).

Apparently the developer of the forums software is aware of the subscription issue.  They are supposed to release a massive update any day now that resolves that issue along with a host of others (including iPad and mobile support!)

Minor quirk I noticed today: I did a search for restaurants near Pittsburgh, PA, and the result list included Crabby Oddwaters in Sunset Beach, NC. The list claimed that Crabby Oddwaters is 46 miles from Pittsburgh, but I am skeptical.

Ralph, I think you'll find that NC is a lot closer to Pittsburgh than you think.  You probably didn't account for plate tectonics.

Actually, we had the wrong street address for Crabby Oddwaters.  You'd think that if you have the correct town and state, but a street that doesn't exist, the mapping algorithm would at least put the restaurant somewhere in that town and state.  But, no, it apparently looks for the nearest spot that has a street by that name - in this case, West Virginia.  It's been corrected (the location of Crabby Oddwaters, not the algorithm).

mar52, because you don't speak French, the Quebecois don't want you to learn about their culture.  I had a somewhat similar experience some years ago the one time I visited Quebec City.

Could be the french thing , but actually I signed on at another computer and got the same forbidden warning. I cleared my old browsing data and cache and all works now.

I have noticed that this particular forum software really gets balky when you access an updated version using a browser with some old browsing data.

Clear out you old stored files and see if that helps.

I know how to use BB code. What I want is for the chain link shortcuts in the coding above the message box to be active.

Obnoxious Scripts - Sat, 10/2/10 11:08 AM
0
During the last week or so, I've been getting a nasty expanding ad from a bank called Regions. Once the page loads, the banner expands about 1/3 screen and requires closing every time. If you should mouse over it, same thing happens. Dumping the cache solves the problem shortly and I get a server error in the banner area then we're back at square one in no time. To be fair, this isn't the only website I'm having this problem. In other websites recently, the entire page hangs up for minutes until I get a "stop running script" box. This is a relatively new problem that we're not only getting on the house computers, but also at the office. The exploding ads in most cases retract automatically, but some require closing or continuously re-open even without mousing over them. Worse yet are redirects or pages that slide in from the side and require closing. Some pages even lock up completely require a ctrl/alt/delete with a"not responding" status. This has become very annoying, but it doesn't seem that many folks are complaining. I have the pop up blocker enabled and neither Maleware bytes ,Spybot, or my resident virus/maleware protection by Sunbelt detect anyting besides a few tracking cookies. I've had to go into tools/Int. Options/Security to disable scripts from running and all is normal with fast page loads at the expense of some active content like flash videos. All of our machines are running up-to-date XP and seem to have the same problems.  Anyone else having this problem not only here but elsewhere recently?

It is doable, except, most times you get a blank page. Just return to the original and click again. It comes up on the second or third try.  It's the same thing with hitting "Reply to Message". Shouldn't need to be that way but that's the way it's currently working.

I can see the pics when not logged in, but cannot when I am logged in.

Alos, I can only reply using 'Quick Reply' on the bottom.  The 'Reply to message' link does not work for me.

Rebooted my computer and all is well.  Cue Emily Latella

I just uploaded a patch for the "Quote the message" issue.  Clear your browser cache (ctrl + f5) and let me know if it works.

Just a test to see if the patch works.

Why doesn't your site support Firefox browser?  I've notived in the last few months that some things doen't work well with Firefox.  For example, many times when I try to reply to a post I get everything but the actualy area to type my reply in.  Very odd.  If you could tell me why I would aporeciate it.

It does look like your site is designed for IE but Firefox should work as well.

Thanks,
Paul

I use Firefox on Roadfood.com about 95% of the time without the problems you mention.  In fact, I believe Stephen designs it using Firefox!  Have you updated your browser lately?  If not, you might give that a try and see if that helps.

This is what I have been getting when I try to reply or even create a new post sometimes.  This one of from just now when I tried to click on the Reply to message box in the upper right hand corner of your post.

Notice there is no place for me to type my message.

I also just reinstalled Firefox.  Strange.  I had to make this post via quick reply.
