Moon Burgers - Sun, 11/23/03 12:12 PM

I just watched a segment of CBS Sunday Morning with
Charles Osgood. They went to the decidedly small,
rural "town" of Moonshine, Illinois to profile the
Moon Burger. Made by one of the 2 official residents
of the town (actually a grocery), they are apparently
quite the tradition. They showed people coming in and
ordering 15 burgers at a time. You can get hamburgers
and/or cheeseburgers. You add your own mustard and ketchup.
The stove is only hot until 12:30 P.M. and then the
cook locks up-no exceptions.

The grocery is a real gathering place and the social
aspect is as important as the cuisine.

At the moment we have no tv---and when we finish the new house its tempting to just not get one but there are some shows i do miss--Sunday Mornig is onme of them.Long time Charles Kuralt fan and pleased with Charles Osgood's great job continuing a great format and greater attitude.Would have missed this if not for Silverspork--thanks!

Ditto the thanks to silverspork.

tiki, Charles Kuralt was one of my early "inspirations". I rarely missed the show when he hosted it. I've grown to accept Osgood in recent years, but I just related much more to Kuralt's "Spirit".

I miss him.

I always looked forward to Sunday morning with Charles Kuralt. I wanted to go to every place he showed.

He also had a very secret life.

I watched that program too. I WANTED one of those burgers.

I liked when the lady said "If you're in here after the door is locked, your cleanin up!"

Charles Kuralt was apparently happily married and after his death, it was discovered that his mistress for many years lived in a neat cabin in a western state which belonged to Kuralt. It was a news item for a while after his death. I think she eventually got to keep the property. She had apparently been his mistress for many years.
