Trang Roasted Whole Pig
-
Sat, 02/28/09 3:55 AM
I have been reading about this specialty of roasted pig in the Trang province of Thailand. As I was reading I came across this passage The pork meat is marinated in the “Ou Chieng Fun” seasoning and other ingredients namely salt, sugar, soy sauce, garlic, pepper for at least 6 – 8 hours. Does anyone know or understand what is meant by “Ou Chieng Fun” Thank-you for any help you can offer boomer

I believe tha fun usually refers to noodles. With a different first name Ive seen it refer to rice flour ball or rice paper rolls.

You could go to a Thai Restaurant and ask them what it is. I couldn't find anything on the Net

Foodbme Thanks I have searched for two weeks I found one thing about it. Jeff Corwin was on FN and was in Thailand and a lady there was preparing this Trang roasted Pig. It looked real good. Would like to give it a shot if I could find a procedure somewhere. I have 6 e-mails to ladies that teach Thai on the west coast. I have recieved two back saying they have never heard of this thought it might be Chinese instead. I checked Trang is definetely in Thailand Boomer

Boomer, I believe that I might have some information for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice_noodle_roll "Cheong Fun" is a type of Chinese rice noodle roll, also popular throughout Asia - and some of the sauces are mentioned in this description - possibly one of these is what's described?
