Jarritos Mexican soda - Tue, 03/10/09 1:20 PM

I am sure many of you may have already tried these but I had never gotten around to it until this morning. I usually see them in the small plastic bottles but ran across 1.5 litre bottles and picked up a Mandarin flavor to try. I must admit the first sip seemed very light in flavor until I took a second, big sip and the flavor was really good. I read the ingredients and was very happy to see it said sugar, no corn syrup at all. The other flavors I saw were pineapple and tamarind. I may have to try the pineapple next.

On a side note, a co-worker told my wife a couple of weeks ago that Pepsi was going back to 100% sugar as a result of "supposed" tests showing bad long term problems using corn syrup... who knows about that one.

...my favorite Mexican soda flavor is sangria but...

...horchata is my favorite Mexican drink:

..we can get Mexican pop at most real Mexican taquerias in greater Cinci but I always opt for horchata..

I enjoy the grapefruit flavor the most.

I like the apple flavor, but I really have to be in the mood for it.  It is very mild.

Hey... I had forgotten all about the apple flavor. I remember trying it one time and it was very mild as you mentioned.

Not true. Skip down a few posts and find the one about Pepsi Throwback. That will explain.

Jarritos is one of the few sodas I will indulge in because it is made with sugar. The taste, to me, is so much more refreshing than those made with corn syrup.( I have only had the fruit punch, thusfar) I also noticed Jarritos doesnt go flat quickly...

I like the lime one, we bought a bottle recently, the cap was off it for about 6 or so hours and it still was nice and fizzy.  With it being made with sugar too there's no horrible aftertaste.

I believe it's made with cane sugar, which gives it it's distinctive flavor.

The Mandarin mixes very well with Vodka. You can also make a great drink with Tequila and the Lime one and add 1/2 of a small Mexican Lime squeezed into it. Served both over crushed ice...Russ

...what is a Mexican lime?

The smaller round thin skinned ones. Similar to a Key Lime only lighter in color (sometimes with a touch of yellow) and larger. They are also by far the best limes for Bloody Mary's...Russ

I sold Jarrito's at my hot dog cart for years. Mandarina, tamarindo, and pina were my three best selling flavors, in that particular order. The glass bottle is the e-ticket over the plastic.

Instead of Squirt, you can use Jarritos Toronja (grapefruit) to make a paloma or an canerilla(sic).  Better than a margarita IMHO.
