How to post pics..? sorry

Sorry if this is explained somewhere, but I've been searching since I started my account and I can't figure it out. Can someone please explain to me how to post pics on the forums?
Just so you don't think I'm an idiot, I've tried to use the Insert Image button on the top and then insert a URL but maybe I wasn't doing it right..THANKS
