German Beer/Wine
-

I am going next week to Germany: Heidelberg, Lake Constance. Any specific recommendations (brands) for beverages? I know you can just walk into a supermarket (markt, that is) and get great wine $5 bottle off the shelf, beer cases on sale like soda ...

If you are looking to drink there and not take out, in Heidelberg try Vetter. It what we would call a micro-brewery. They have several good varieties, including their plain old house brew. They also have one of my all time favorite meals-- weiner schnitzel holsteiner style. Fried potatoes topped with breaded cutlets topped with fried eggs. They are located a few steps from the cathedral at: Steingasse 9 69117 Heidelberg, Germany +49 6221 165850

We stayed in Heidelberg over Easter one year with our kids (then 8 & 5) at a great B&B near the Castle. They had chocolate Easter bunnies for each of the kids that morning! Not anything to do with beer, but it was a great time and fun city! (Although my son somehow fell in love with the stuff in a marionette shop and we left it with me $200 poorer) But we had "Great Performances" for the next 3 years! And some great food.

ken8038 Not sure if you are looking to Take Home or Drink There, but here's a good starting reference: http://www.xs4all.nl/~patto1ro/index.htm#germany Oddly, nothing specific about Heidleberg, but lots of information to sort thru nonetheless. Wow, Ken, that website is fantastic! Heidelberg is in Baden-Wurttenberg as is Lake Constance (except for Lindau where I am staying and is just across the border in Bavaria). Oh, yes and Tsores Vetter is listed there, Alt Heidelberg. Just now, I am drinking "on-site" although I may get a bottle of wine for US. Any wine ideas?
