Just curious, is this  even known as a beer in the states?...I happened upon a video that said there was a brewery doing Hefeweitzen in the states, so just wondering if anyone back there has a taste for this perfect brew?

Many brewerys do it here.  The most common is the one with a yellow label (I can't remember the name).

It's considered a summer seasonal brew, there's a good 5-6 brands to choose from at any given outlet.  Very popular at the brewpubs too.  Post summer it falls out of seasonal distribution and there may just a couple to pick from.  You can likely find Sam Adams Hefe all year long nationally.

UFO does Hefeweitzen.  Hoegaarden is also becoming more available on taps, but that is made in Belgium.

Sam Adams and Long Trail both make a very good Hefewietzen.  I think I actually prefer the Long Trail.

UFO is brewed by Harpoon, and they also make a Raspberry UFO.

Leinenkugel in Wisconsin makes one, available year round.

Widmer brothers in Portland Or., year round as well.

Many fine brew pubs in Oregon serve it as well.

So yes it is known of here in the states.

It is my favorite!  I love Widmer's which can be found in the grocery stores here.  It was best my first time around 12 or so years ago when served up in a pitcher at the Widmer Brewery in Portland.

I've always asked for mine with lime and they always bring me lemon.

Yes, I love it.

ah, getting thirsty just thinking about it, used to sit on the deck at Emile's in KC and enjoy many on a summer afternoon.

As others state, lots of brewpubs make wheat beers, often seasonal, Boulevard Brewery in KC makes excellent beer.

The tavern in our village usually has Magic Hat Circus Boy on draft, an American-made Hefeweizen, although I've not tasted it.

RubyRose - I forgot about Circus Boy.  It is very good.  I like it much more than Widmer even.  And having it on draft is fantastic.  They serve half yards of it at a bar near me.

Hefewieisen is available in every tavern and bar in Portland. Widmer's is everywhere and most of the micro-breweries make it. It is my beer of choice when i am out on the town.

As Brisketboy mentioned up above, Shiner's makes their version in Texas and, Thank Heaven, it is available to us here in the Louisville area ! It is very good!
