I'm always on the hunt for a good burger in any form or style. Here are 30 burgers from the past year or so that I have been able to capture pictures of. The burger is one of those things that you know you will be eating from childhood until the end of time. Use this thread to post a picture of your favorite burgers during your time spent traveling.

KingT, I love hamburgers ( I'm not too wild about cheeseburgers though ), and I'm really impressed by your burger photos. Most of these thirty burgers are ones that I'd love to sink my teeth into ( a couple, not so much ); in fact I've had the burgers at Schoop's, Moody's Pub, White Palace, Billy Goat Tavern and Madvek's. Schoop's and Moody's are my favorites of the five; Billy Goat's is pretty good, White Palace's burgers were better before the remodeling that included replacing the ages-old grill, and Madvek's loosemeat sandwiches are just okay ( certainly not in the same league as Maid-Rite's. ) If you haven't had the burgers at the Country House ( Clarenden Hills ) and Hackney's ( six locations ), you should check them out; they are my number one and number two favorite hamburgers anywhere.

Baah Ben, if you want to do the roadfood thing in Chicagoland properly, you need at least two weeks, probably longer. Believe me, there's that much great food to check out. Burgers, pizza, italian beef, steaks, hot dogs, seafood... you name it, it's here, and much of it is among the best in the country. Next time that you're coming to Chicago, let me know and I'll take you around to some of my favorite places and/or the places that you most want to try.

I have only eaten, on this list, a burger from Big Star( I await their opening each year with my best friend, who lives in Kenosha)and Charcoal Inn( lived in Sheboygan for 7 years and I could, and did, walk to their north side location) and I can say these are wonderful burgers.Looking forward to tasting the others!

KingT -

Your photos are excellent.  This is a thread I can surely get behind!

Hmmm....keeping it to the last year or so....how's about a Top 12 list?

The seemingly-departed double cheeseburger at Kaelin's in Louisville, KY.

Bacon-cheeseburger (my standard) at Stella's in Omaha, NE

The legendary Luger Burger (with bacon and an added tomato slice) from Peter Luger Steakhouse in New York.

Ranchman's Cafe in Ponder, TX.

Town Topic in Kansas City, MO

Dinker's in Omaha, NE

Rotier's in Nashville, TN.

Triple XXX Restaurant in West Lafayette, IN.

Pancho and Lefty's in Hare, TX

OK...this is weird.  First a few of the photos didn't link properly from flickr, and then my post went from 12 burgers to 9.  Here are the other three burgers that originally made the Top 12 of the last year (and change).....

Runyon's in East Meadow.

Pappas Burger; Houston, TX

The cheeseburger on dark rye bread at Hackney's on Harms in Chicago, IL.

WOW!

Just WOW with a fried egg on top!

What an amazing thread.  Thank you both for your efforts.

And to think...  you got to eat them, too!

I'm very impressed.

I have to give extra points to any place that serves crinkle-cut fries.... a big plus in my book. Also the first burger pic where it appeared more sub than burger gets more points as well.

NC - You won't get any arguments on ChiTown from me..We loved everything about Chicago.  We were there for a week (like you said..not enough time), but still couldn't get to all the places we wanted to go to. We did get to see the Cubbies play (the reason for the trip!)

We liked that Weber Grill restaurant..Very interesting.  Pretty good burger.

Not being mean or rude or to P on anyones Wheaties but a lot of the burgers look WAY over cooked to me, that's all nothing against anyone or thing.

I don't think it is rude to express your opinion at all, but I am curious as to how you can determine that they are overcooked given that the majority of the burgers are pictured whole?

Beyond that, wouldn't "overcooked" be relative to how the person who was served the burger ordered said burger?

A few days ago, I made a less-than-enthusiastic comment about the loosemeat sandwiches at Madvek's in Hammond IN. Since I'd only been there one time, I started thinking that maybe I was a little hasty in making that statement, so I went back for lunch today. I'm glad that I did; today's loosemeat was an improvement over my previous one. Every restaurant has an occasional off-day, and I guess that was the case with my first visit. I glad to say that I can now recommend Madvek's for anyone doing a NW Indiana roadfood tour.

That's good information to have.  A while back I read one of KingT's posts about NW Indiana food and remembered the reference to Madvek's loose meat sandwiches.  I have not had a loose meat sandwich since my last trip to Iowa several years ago.  The fact that you had a good experience means that I need to add it to the list for my next trip to the Chicago area.

Double cheeseburger from Kewpee's (Racine, WI)

When recently asked whats the best burger I've come across, whether it is or not, Kewpee's is the first place that jumped to mind. Stay tuned.

IntelligenT82 - I'm a huge fan of Five Guys and I actually think their fries are even better than their burgers.

The problem is one is; they have a new location opening about 1 mile from my apartment this Monday.  So I may have a heart attack by Christmas!

How does the Elevation Burger stack up against 5 Guys? I notice Elevation Burger is a budding chain from 5 Guys' original territory.

Love the Burger Photo's !!! I have found that I no longer can tolerate Mushrooms on anything (post-Gall Bladder removal) as much as I love them going down...They make me pay within a very short period of time... So no 'rooms on mine please.

I haven't had a Frisco Melt from Steak n Shake for several years. I recall them as a wonderful taste treat though. I guess we'll have to stop at one soon to renew our memories.

Here is the mushroom cheeseburger my boyfriend had yesterday at Jake's Hamburgers in Chadds Ford, PA. My only problem with his is that the cheese on the top patty is not melted enough.

I had the same thing but without mushrooms.

I'd have to say these are the best burgers from Jake's I've had yet. This is the first time we've been to this location. It's a not-too-big franchise, by the way...not a chain!

If you can't pick up and eat a burger without half of the toppings falling all over the place, then its a pain in the butt. I wish these places would take just as much care about the quality of the bun, as they do the burger. Notice, the better quality steak houses that serve a think burger, serve it with a bun that carries the load of the burger, and toppings.

It's driving me nuts why my two pictures are no longer showing. Can anyone else see them?

Harriet, all that I'm getting is that "photo currently unavailable" nonsense, with a "Flickr" logo at the bottom.

That's one of my chief complaints about 5 Guys!

I know it's a chain...but you gotta give it up to Five Guys...pic below

I like Five Guys, I really do, but they overcook their burgers. A little pink and they'd be perfect. Now their frys on the otherhand are bangin' !!

Elevation Burger...check it out at www.elevationburger.com

If the ingredients were not organic and free range I'd take the Elevation burger with mustard, mayonnaise, hot pepper relish and carmelized onions, thank you.

Michael, Don't say that to my free range chickens, and pasture raised Black Angus Hormone free cows, they will peck and MOO you until the pigs come home.............Billyb

KingT, many thanks for this incredible thread!  And the fact that you were patient enough to post all 30 pics in one post is noteworthy, too!  Sadly, I've not been to one of these places, especially in and around Chicagoland.  That's probably due to what Carolina Bob eluded to earlier: Chicago has so many other specialties that I wouldn't really think to put burgers on my must-try list.  That could change, though!  Thanks for the inspiration...  Chris

That really should change, Chris, as Chicagoland has some dynamite burgers. Next time that you and Amy are in town, I'll take you on a Windy City burger tour ( be sure to bring your appetite. )
