Free Washington, DC Eat and Greet - Fri, 06/12/09 5:11 AM
0

The D C Dining Society invites you to join us for a free Eat And Greet at the newly remodeled Dupont Hotel at 1500 New Hampshire Avenue from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, Friday, June 19.

Executive Chef Nenad Stefanovic has taken over the beautiful facility here after stints at Todd English's Disney World location and the famous Palace Hotel in San Francisco. His cuisine is market driven- simple presentations of top quality ingredients with as much local sourcing as possible.

Our evening will include a chance to meet other area foodies, talk cooking with the Chef, tastings of a few of his dishes, a selection of premium Bourbons courtesy of the members of The Kentucky Distillers' Association, and some tastes from Slavin Seafood of Arlington.

There is no charge for this event, but space is limited and reservations are required.

To RSVP, and for additional information about this and other D C Dining Society events scheduled for this summer call me at 202-265-0477 or e-mail chefmartydc@aol.com.

Happy eating, Chef Marty

This blatant ad should be deleted.

I do not view this announcement as an advertisement , there is no fee associated with this outing, there is no purchase necessary to participate.  I do not see any difference between this posting and one that would highlight a potential roadfood gathering being held elsewhere.

It's a disguised ad - this event is free, yes, but its not purely philanthropic or a casual gathering of like minded souls via roadfood.com- it's meant to showcase a particular person and their venue as well as some other businesses, with a view to encouraging people to buy further. Which is admirable in itself, but still an ad.

Restaurant reviews encourage or discourage people of seeing particular restaurants. I am interested to know of these showcase events. Everytime someone posts a picture of their hot dog rig, it advertises their particular business. This is a free event and is helpful to know.

there's no such thing as a free lunch.

As a DC resident, and foodie, and active on roadfood, I'm glad to know about the event, and hope this thread stays right here.

I had planned to leave on vacation that afternoon, but I might stick around and leave Sat morning.

I agree with you that there is nothing wrong with this.  As someone pointed out, the hot dog vendors are actually getting free advertising for their carts and no one says a word.

It's no advertisement. It's an interesting, and should be welcome, invitation from someone who has been a Roadfood member for nearly four years.

Thank you, Chef Marty. I wish I could accept your invitation.

I would have to agree it is a little bid of a double edged sword, but I wouldn't call it an advertisement. Hopefully their are good intentions behind it. I wish I could go as well.

It might have a motive for generating future business thru exposure.  I see nothing wrong in an open house type event.  If they are willing to offer a taste of what they are about at no charge then they should at least be listened to.
Its a shame that people think "professional" here to be limited to a portable venue!

FYI, Chef Marty has been discussed amongst the Mods and we decided he wasn't SPAMing the board. As now posted his posts will stay.
