Anyone been to Sister Bay recently who could update me on the status of Carroll House, the fabulous waffle restaurant there? When we were last up there a year ago it was on the market. Is it still open?

Good news!
Just got back from another Door County vacation and Carroll House remains in business and seems to be thriving. We went three times during the one week we were there, and the waffles are as thin, crispy and wonderful as ever. No one makes them like this place.
Also, on the way to and from Door County, we stopped for lunch at Phil Rohrer's in Two Rivers, and it also remains in great shape. The fried perch were tremendously good, as of course were the raw fries. (I notice they have a bunch of raw potatoes behind the counter, and when you order raw fries they take one of the potatoes, slice it, and throw it into the oil.) Simplicity at its very finest.

I love it when someone answers his own question.  What is the deal with a Door County fish boil?  It looks interesting but I've also heard some terrible comments.

I've never had a fish boil in Door County, but I;ve had them in other Great Lakes states, and I've done them myself. They are terrible. I mean, come on. Fish? Potatoes? Corn? Butter? It has to be hazardous to one's health. Just because it's delicious and fun doesn't make it right.

Mr. Hoffman, I think you left out 2 other major ingredients, salt and kerosene (although the kerosene is for the fire, not the food).  They do look dramatic; you do them with all of the pyrotechnics?
