Recently had toasted almond at Collins Creamery in Enfield CT. It set a new gold standard for me. I understand the dairy at Uconn also has toasted almond. Can't wait for my next trip through mid CT to run a taste test.

Vanilla. But I've also become a big moose-tracks fan over the past year or two.

My favorite flavor hasn't been available in years. It's the Brandied Peach from Velvet Ice Cream in Utica, Ohio. Until a couple of years ago I'd call Velvet once a year asking whether they'd be bringing it back, and every year I'd be told it hadn't been decided.

Since Mr. Hoffman could not get his Brandied Peach ice cream he decided on BORING vanilla. I got Limoncellato Gelato and it is delicious.

Black Raspeberry was very common in New England where I grew up. It's still among my favorites. I also like SOME vanilla ice creams. Yes, vanilla. Vanilla gets a bad rap (often deservedly so) for being boring. Much of it is boring. The problem is that most vanillas are TOO WEAKLY flavored, so you taste mostly the cream, and not enough actual vanilla. But, it's wondeful when you get a really good, strongly flavored vanilla. It is not boring when it has enough flavor. At milk shake places that add flavor syrups, I have them do a triple shot of vanila. It will light up your taste buds! Glenn

For many years Pralines and Cream was my top choice, with Jamocha Almond Fudge second, and Pink Grapefruit Ice a close third. All from Baskins/ Robbins. Now Graeter's is the source with Toffe Chip, Mocha Chip, and Fresh Peach being my favorites. Has anyone noticeds that Sherbets are fading from the grocery freezers? We used to get quite a variety of flavors, now they have all disappeared except for the three color buckets in our local stores.

Haven't had the opportunity to try Graeter's yet. Maybe on my next trip East next year. My current favorite is Baskin-Robbins chocolate fudge. It has a very dense texture and deep flavor.

#1 favorite of all time - Lemon Ice Box Pie that I used to get at the old Janus Theatre ice cream shop in Greensboro. Since that is no more, I've been making do with Lemony Sunshine made by Front Porch, a Carolina Churned ice cream that is quite good.

Glenn As I recall from my Arlington/McLean days, Giant Foods' "house brand" had a strong vanilla taste and "won" several WaPo "taste tests".

Several years ago Braum's (a TX - OK dairy store chain) made a wonderful flavor: Chocolate Pecan Divinity. It brought back fond memories of ma grandmere who used to make divinity from scratch. Unfortunately, Braum's has discontinued the flavor. But the flavor that has stood the test of time for my tastebuds is BR's "Jamocha Almond Fudge", but their prices have come to offend me. How can Braum's profitably sell two huge scoops in a waffle cone for $1.89 while BR wants 5 BUCKS for two miserly scoops on a sugar cone (and allow a friggin' tip jar, to boot)? My latest "fad" (actually ice cream frenzy) is to make myself a caramel/cashew sundae with Breyer's Natural Vanilla which Sam's Club sells for $6.89 a full gallon. (Ah, my latest e-mail from COSTCO informs me that they are now discounting NutriSystem!)

With my absolute favorite ice cream flavor, Velvet's Brandied Peach, not available I am currently enamored of Graeter's Summer Peach and Velvet's Peach Cobbler.

I like vanilla frozen custard. Unfortunately, most places claiming to serve "frozen custard" actually serve soft-serve ice cream, regardless of what the law says. Bart

My favorite is anything involving mint. I love mint. Neapolitan is a close runner-up, although I guess technically that's not really a "flavor," per se...
