Deale, Maryland is a tiny hamlet on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, in the southern part of Anne Arundel County. Most of the houses there were once vacation homes, and the waterways are choked with marinas. In recent decades, people have been staying year round, and there are some newer homes springing up between the old cottages.
In the middle of all this is a bar/restaurant called Petie Greens. http://www.petiegreens.com/
I was introduced to the place by the Anne Arundel County Archaeologist, Al Luckenbach, who recommended their hamburgers. After visiting a local archaeological site, we all ate at Petie Greens. The burgers were indeed huge and juicy, with lightly grilled buns. Everybody who had them raved about the fries, but I opted for the sweet potato fries, which were also excellent. Several of us got crab cake sandwiches, as well, and raved about the huge lumps of crab.
Worth a road trip if you're in the area. Boat or no boat.
