to be a little serious, Bagels were unkown here in Germany, within the last 10 - 15 years, the Bagel came back to my homeland. Everything "jewish" is a bit problematic here, I do not like to talk about the Holocaust, and our eternal german shame.
Nowadays, here in Germany we have a multicultural supply of food, and also fantastic foreign dishes, and we love it, turkish Doener-Kebap is the best selling fast-food over here in Germany, not Currywurst, not even Bratwurst.
There are also many jewish kosher restaurants, to sorry only in the big major cities, I never had the chance to dine there.
Serving a Bagel to my grandmother (1914-2003), the ol lady thought, it was a piece of cake, with cream cheese and lox, she did not taste it...
Most of us germans are somewhat conservative, when it comes to "exotic" food, I like it, the variety, just great!
