Catskills Heimishe Bakery - Monticello, NY

Rode by Today and the Catskills Heimishe Bakery - Monticello, NY appears to be Closed.
Anyone have any info or did I miss a post about it closing

Hey, Tony, hate to see your post  go unanswered, so here we go..

Most likely the bakery is just a seasonal operation...
probably closed cause it was approaching the end of the "bungalow colony" and summer camp season..
Most of the summer residents up there nowadays are the ultra Orthodox (and often Hasidic) Jewish folks coming from Brooklyn..
They stay in the bungalow colonies during the summer; often the men work their regular jobs in NYC during the week, and can only come up on weekends..

And now they are mostly all back in Brooklyn again for the winter..
and there is not enough business from the year round Monticello area folks to keep that bakery going..
(espescially with almost all the Jewish style resorts long closed)
Kutchers is still open, but I did a "walk through" in July...
and it LOOKS dead!!

Thanks Ellen I occasionally work up in Sullivan County and will check back
next summer. Your love of Pastrami led me to try making my own with surprisingly
good results. Here in Orange County there is not 1 spot that has anything like
a good Jewish Deli would serve. I do stop at Harrolds when in New Jersey when I am
in the mood for Pastrami. Rumpernooks in Fair Lawn long closed was where I had my first
Great Pastrami.

I'm so glad to hear that I gave you creative inspiration to cook up a pastrami !!  Way to go!!
BTW, I started a pastrami thread on Chowhound that ended up getting put in the cooking thread cause there were was lots of good tidbits on making your OWN pastrami!

Tony: We were on our way to Storm King Art Center a few weeks ago and saw, for the first time, the Brothers BBQ. We couldn't stop because we had the grandchildren and a picnic already packed in the car. 

How long have they been there ? And, how do they compare with Barnstormer that used to be in a run-down mall in Newburgh ( now re-located in Ft Montgomery)?

            You must have missed my reply to your Barnstormer post in April.
Brothers is a small place with a few tables and some serious Q. I have tried the
Brisket which is excellent. My wife has had the Pulled Pork also excellent.
Now that the Summer is winding down I will have to try the Ribs. I have fun
spending the day smoking my own ribs in the warm weather. The price for
a lunch size sandwich is $5.00 which is very reasonable for the portion you
receive. They also have excellent Fresh Cut Fries.
