Gas Station turned Hot Dog and Ice Cream - Sun, 09/20/09 10:38 PM

While on vacation with my girl friend, we found several HDJs.
One was a old gas station conversion.

Blondies Ice Cream & Deli
587  Route 28
Dennisport, Ma
Barnstable County

They serve a Foot Long Boars Head without casing with a specially made bun.

The bun is toasted and the hot dog is put in the steamer, then the hot dog is grilled.

Their chili is Boars Head brand which was very tasty.

I found almost all the chilis in MA are with beans and/or they serve as their regular chili.

They have a great setup with the Boars Head Steamer and the top and bottom grill for
both the buns and hot dog.

The hot dog was hot and had a good snap. I should of asked for the hot dog to be grilled a little more because I like them grilled to they are about ready to break open. This was my fault.

I'll definately go back next year on vacation.

They have many old photos, pumps, etc. of the place.

Great Stop

John, that is a New England Style (top split) frankfurter roll. Any idea if they had it baked especially for them, or if it came in a plastic bag from one of the wholesale bakeries up there (IBC/Wonder/Nissen, Gold Medal, LePage, Homestead?)

But it sure does look  goooooooood!!!

It also looks like a beef/pork dog. The all beef Boars Head has a deep red color.

Are hot dogs at ice cream places prevalent in the East?

David

He said he had them specially made.

Bill

HDJs = Hot Dog Joints

I found most vendors in MA had more to offer like, ice cream, fish and seafood sandwichs, sausage, ribs, etc.
