there already are large parts of the country that don't care.

Baseball's appeal is now much more regional than national. With the exceptions of the Yankees and Cubbies(maybe the Red Sox), there are few teams with national followings. A Green Bay-Jacksonville Super Bowl would garner huge ratings despite the size of the markets whereas even an Anaheim-Philadelphia World series between large markets will not draw the ratings of yesteryear. It is the nature of the beast in the current world.

I don't know what makes me more happy- that the Yankees won last night, or that the Red Sox are done for the year.

Dale, you are right. Yankee fans are so much less obnoxious than Red Sox fans.

Keep in mind I've had to deal with 9 years of continuous Red Sox  cultish, frenzied ARROGANCE

I wasn't like this before I moved to Rhode Island, my attitude  like most other Yankee fans in the NYC area would have been "who??? The Red Sox? or was it Toronto? or Kansas City? Oh well, whatever, same thing............

WJ-

You must know a lot of different Yankee fans than I know.  I saw a Cub fan getting his butt kicked by a couple of classy Yankee fans when the Cubs came to the Bronx a couple of years ago.  They were all over us during the game, and it wasn't good-natured ribbing, either.

But keep drinking the Kool-Aid.

I've lived in NY most of my life, I've been to many Yankees games, much more than I can count. I've NEVER seen a fight break out- ever! I sat in the bleachers at Yankee Stadium while they were playing the Red Sox- nothing at all.. I remember seeing the Yanks play Toronto back in 2000- I was living in Pittsburgh at the time and had just gone to Camden Yards in Baltimore and Veterans Stadium in Philly.  The general feeling of that particular game was just "sedate". Frankly, I never experienced anything like you did and honestly I find it hard to believe.

By the way, I've been to 4 games at Fenway- and each time at least one fight broke out. In fact Fenway Park is the only park I've ever been too where I've actually witnessed a fist fight at a ballgame.

You're right.  There are no fights at Yankee Stadium.  I must have been lying.

http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=6ee_1208831505

And here's one with Yankees fans ignoring a Red Sox fan.

http://technorati.com/videos/youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DTwBa3XA3Sl4

And here's how they welcome out-of-towners to the stadium.  (There's a few of these)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztPQieRucKE

Here's an article where a patron at Yankee Stadium hit an ump with a thrown bottle

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztPQieRucKE

There's plenty more, too.  Fights happen at every stadium.  I've seen them at Cubs games, White Sox games, Twins games, and North Stars games, just for a few.  Now, if they fight in Minnesota, which is known for "Minnesota Nice", they'll fight anywhere.

I once sat behind some Jets fans at Soldier Field about 15 years ago that started a fight with some other fans in front of them.

I suppose it could be that those were all just isolated incidents at Yankee Stadium where these issues only coincidentally occurred when someone had a camera.  Also, when when Kobe Bryant was accused of rape in Colorado, that was probably the first time he ever cheated on his wife.

If they keep making fielding and throwing blunders they will not even win one game.

Yanks go up 2-0.

Is there anything can stop this scrappy group of underpaid unknowns?  Somehow, their brilliant second-year manager has been able to bring this underrated group together and become the Cinderella story of the year.  This is pure sport at its best.

There's no doubt in my mind that fans at any ballpark can get rowdy- even triple A- probably the most rowdiest triple A ballpark I went to was Spring Mobile Ballpark formally known as Franklin Covey Field in Salt Lake City. If a bunch of Mormons can get rowdy, anyone can, however in my 30 years of going to Yankee Stadium, I've never seen a fight break out there or any other ballpark other than Fenway and you know how many ballparks I've been too and how frequently I go.

My first time experiencing the bleachers at Yankee Stadium, the Red Sox fans from Boston had the "cojones" to sit in the bleachers and instigate trouble by taunting the fans around them. The fans around me simply told them to "shut up" , no taunting back- nothing

By the way, here's Papelbon leading a "Yankees Suck cheer" a couple of years back.
Real classy guy-

Like Mariano Rivera would ever lead a  "Red Sox Suck cheer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lANSRUHHVgk

Now here's a scene I'm all too familiar with at Fenway

This lifetime Sox fan would LOVE to see a Yanks/Dodgers series. Talk about history!
I apologize for all  the Sox fans who are jerks. Some of us try to be good sports. The hubs and I would love to see a game at Yankee Stadium. I may not cheer for the Yanks, but I won't boo them, either.
Jeter is an awesome player and will be a Hal of Famer one day. Named for a Bruins star, BTW.

That would be too tough for the old Brooklyn Bums fans! They can't root for the Yanks; they can't root for the team that deserted them.

No doubt the Yankees are a great team.  But they should be with the payroll they have. Same old same old.  Yankees bought Sabathia from the Brewers.  Who will they buy next with the unlimited payroll?

This is why I'm not a big baseball fan.  If they change the structure, maybe I'll watch more.  In the meantime:

Go Packers and the NFL!!!!!

Yes...and one super pitcher....now we're ONE win away from the pennant...and C.C. was amazing...striking out Angels into the 8th with a Fast Ball still at 95 mph...Crappy refs again...bad calls for both sides...but the score was a romp anyway!!!!!

Man you're tellin' me! What was going on with those umps? In all fairness they were pretty crappy on both sides so it didn't affect the outcome but come on....you'd think that at this level (the LCS) that they'd had the best guys out there. That one with Posada and Cano on third was the most stunning and obviously call.

...and C.C....that boy is just awesome right now! Can't wait to see him in Game 1

Make it several hundred for each pitch.

I respect the Yankees organization and they play in the playing field that is what it is.  But until some sort of bargaining agreement is made, Yankees fans can continue to toot their own horns but the rest of the country isn't listening.  The old "look at us...aren't we great" gets old to fans from places like Kansas City, Milwaukee, Seattle etc etc....  It boils down to we have the biggest media market so we can afford the most.  Look at the payroll folks....that explains it ALL!

Funny because Bud is from my hometown Milwaukee and has not done a damn thing to change it.  That is how inept MLB is.  So you Yankees fans continue to enjoy your championships in private.  The rest of the country isn't listening.

Please. The Royals suck because David Glass runs the team like he ran Wal-Mart. As long as he gets his revenue sharing and the rubes, oops, fans, continue to pay major league prices to watch AA level ball at the "K", they'll never improve.

The Royals are the best reason I can think of to bring relegation like they have in soccer to MLB.

The Yankee bashers have harped on the current facts of the team using its revenues to "buy" their way to the World Series, but have conveniently forgot that the majority of the team's championships were won in the days before free agency. They got it done with a better farm system & shrewder trades than the other teams.

Uh, this thread is kind of about the current Yankees, which is probably why we are harping "on the current facts of the team using its revenues to "buy" their way to the World Series...".

Their history really isn't relevant here, but I think a few people (including myself) have commented on their rich tradition including Ruth, Gehrig, and Mantle.  I don't think anyone is "conveniently forgetting".  It's just not a part of the conversation of the Yankees since free agency.

Now, back to the "8-team tournament to see who gets to lose to the Yankees."

They got it done with a better farm system & shrewder trades than the other teams.

Yeah, I remember back in the late 50's and early 60's when one of their "farm teams" was the Kansas City Athletics. That used to drive my father (a Dodger fan) absolutely nuts.  pb

A sensational game last night. Brian Fuentes may well be the worst good closer in baseball and he certainly took it to the limit in the save last night. I still think the Yankees will win but least it is a series now.

Eghhhh....not fun....certainly an entertaining game. Hopefully Saturday will be the end of this series...I was pretty confident yesterday would be...now I'm on the edge of my seat.

No doubt the Yankees are a great team.  But they should be with the payroll they have. Same old same old.  Yankees bought Sabathia from the Brewers.  Who will they buy next with the unlimited payroll?

Uhh, check your facts.  Sabathia was a free agent.

Somehow he led MLB with 48 saves (7 blown) while compiling an ERA of nearly 4, which is a pretty odd combination.  A couple of big-time meltdowns skewing the number, perhaps?  Makes me wonder how that compares to the ERAs of other pitchers in their 40-save seasons.

I know what Angels fans are going through.  I listened to plenty of White Sox broadcasts this year when Bobby Jenks, who is apparently allergic to the 1-2-3 inning, pitched.

If the Angels win tomorrow it's likely a big help to the Phillies regardless of who wins Sunday.  The Yankees are trying to get by with a 3-man rotation and if Sabathia has to pitch game 7 he'd probably only get 2 starts in the Series, which might even force Girardi to find a 4th starter for a game.  This could get interesting...

I think Sabathia can pitch every other day, rain or shine.
