Test drive - Sat, 10/31/09 9:54 PM
So I finished my cart except the grill and decided to take it and test it out. I took it to the University Of Tennessee at Chattanooga's tailgating party today. I set it up and everything worked just as expected. It was great. I steamed some beef and turkey dogs. Steamed the buns and warmed the chili up. I got alot of compliments on my cart. I had a gentleman approach me that was very impressed with the cart and stated he was looking for something just like it for his business. He owns all the Moe's restaurants in Chattanooga. He wants to buy my cart or wants me to build another one for him. He is going to give me a call in  January to work out the details.

Thanks Ron. Those umbrellas are expensive. I'm going to get in touch with Coca Cola and see if they can give me a discount on them since I'm only serving Coke products.

That cart is very very red.

Hey, is the little white spout thing on the outside to drain the steam table, the water from the ice chest, or the hot water tank for hand washing?

tnmedic,

Are you getting Coke directly from the distributor?

That is the drain for the waste water tank. It has a tankless water heater. To drain the water tank I just turn the sink on and let it run and then drain the waste water tank. It has a water pump on it also.

No I'm not getting my drinks straight from the distributor. I'm thinking since I'm not buying it from them they will not give me one but I was hoping that they might sell me one cheaper than I can buy one else where. I know they give them away to some restaurants that buy direct from them.

Do you need an umbrella?   Do you want a certain type?

Yes I need an umbrella. I'm not picky about the type. Well I don't think I would want some big pink umbrella but other than that I'm not real picky.

Nice cart!

This is the type of market umbrella we have.  It stands up well under strong gusty winds. We think it's because of the tiered section.

Amazon currently has a "New 9’ Burgundy Patio Wooden Market Umbrella with Tilt" for $39.00 + $21.80 shipping. (probably the lowest price you will be able to find)  They have 3 left.

Yup, best price all right! Just ordered one.

Since you are such a great shopper, would I be a pest if I asked where you found the water pump?

I bought the plans for the E-Z buit cart, started collecting parts today. I am working with a guy who has an 8x20 concession trailer. He has the dvd's & instructions right now, having a hard time meeting with him because of scheduling conflicts to get the dvd's / instructions back so I can start working on the cart. We are going to use the trailer for big events, use the cart for small / indoor / big trailer inaccessible events. Nice thing is the trailer is already licensed, & has SEVEN sinks, so the cart will be part of the trailer.

I am still going to have a hand washing sink on the cart.

I bought the water pump from a local rv parts supply store. It cost around $75. Later I found out that Shurflow makes a smaller one than the one I bought that is cheaper. I couldn't find that one anyway. It works great also. Very easy to wire. Just make sure you place an inline fuse between the battery and the pump.

Ebay. It works great. Hot water comes out in about 5 seconds.

That water heater is awesome! I need to convert my cart to that system.

Hey 6star - thanks for the heads up on the umbrella - I could not pass it up and I grabbed one - Perfect color and Great price (and shipping was a couple of bucks cheaper too). Again thanks

Tnmedic never seen anybody dressed so nice behind a cart. Like the lookes of cart, will have to get by when in the area. As others can attest to will have tape measure and pen and paper at hand. All over cart. My references only. I am a builder at heart, need ideas. Glad things are going well.
Which Chili did you deside on.

Still trying to decide. Chiliman makes a good vegitarian chili but I haven't found it in a large can yet. My wife makes a good veggie chili also, just trying to figure what it would cost to make it and how much product to see if it would be worth it.

Tnmedic, have you tasted Boca brand vegetarian chili? Should be able to get it at Walmart. Not sure if it would be cost effective for cart or not.

Purchased a used RV fridge tonight from a gutted RV. Also got the 12v water pump (shurflow!), furnace & power invertor, for $250.00. Fridge is older, but full size & 3 way operation - LP, 12v or 110v.

Cool. I haven't tried the Boca brand yet. I'll have to try it. Have you started to build yet ?

If looking for ideas recipe follows. I am still at a loss for vegetarian ground meat. Maybe that is why  my hair loss is to many.

This is the way my wife fixes it with the fake ground meat. Most people who have tried it couldn't tell it was fake meat. I'm sure you could tell Curb. :-)

Re:Test drive - Mon, 11/9/09 1:55 PM
I'm waiting for my spillage pans to arrive before I get started, should be here Tues / Weds. My HD is really picky about sinks, want them to be big enough to wash everything I use, including food holding steam pans. I'm confident the spillage pans will work.

I have so many ideas in my head, I am not sure where to start! Been looking thru the blog archives @ hotdogprofits.com, seeing some really neato mano custom carts. Peeps are using the E-Z built directions as a template, then designing their own. This one is my favorite!

I'm tempted to do a "modular" setup, so I can take it inside through a normal width door.

Cooking / hot holding module
Sinks module
fridge / cooler module

Another thought is to create an E-Z built without sinks, and keep sink module in pickup. The cap on my truck has "contractor" windows, they open just like the rear cap window for full access to side storage that might be mounted in bed. Just stand next to truck & do dishes! I could mount my fridge where water / waste tanks would go. RV fridge is 52" tall!

Morningstar Farms meat crumbles is also a good meat substitute. Boca is lower in calories & stuff tho.

I make a meat"less" lover pizza. Sausage crumbles, facon (fake bacon) <both Morningstar Farms>, Lightlife Pepperoni (when I can find it) & some veggies.

I was chowing on a bbq riblet from Morningstar farms as I typed this. They taste just like a McD's McRib! I wrapped bbq riblet in Flatout brand whole wheat flatbread instead of a sub bun.
