Porubsky's Transcendent Deli Fri, 11/6/09 10:36 AM (permalink)
Matt Porubsky, grandson of Deli founder Charlie Porubsky, has made a documentary about his family's Deli with the above title.  It premiered this week here in Topeka. I haven't seen it yet, but the trailer is on YouTube.  It looks like a must-see - I had the chili there for lunch last week.

I'd love to see the finished film. Do you know when it'll be available?

A big thanks to Niagara for making us aware of this film and Bill Voss for posting the link.  From the preview, this really does look like a must see for Roadfooders!

BTW, I had never heard of Porubsky's referred to as a deli.  Isn't it normally called Porubsky Grocery.

Everybody here in Topeka just calls it Porubsky's.

The west half of the building is a small grocery store, and the east half is the restaurant/tavern - they are connected by a doorway and have seperate front entrances.

Just wanted everyone to know that the documentary, Porubsky's Transcendent Deli, will be on KTWU (Topeka PBS station) Sunday, December 6th at 7pm. This will be your first chance to purchase the Dvd and soundtrack.
