My online friend (and possibly the German version of buffetbuster) posted this trip report at the Barbecuebible website.  I'll tease you with a few of Don Marco's pictures, but you'll need to click over there for the entire thing.

Don Marco is a natural at this, but he may need to work on his eating capacity.

Wow, Don Marco certainly knows how to eat. Thanks for sharing! I'd say that 4 meals in 3 hours is really just one extended meal

I have to add one more:

I'm homesick now, I was there last month and now I'm stuck in the semi-great white north (Everett Wa) No bbq to speak of unless you consider Famous Dave's good Q.

My, oh, my. I knew the bbq around these parts is good but that man wins the prize for dedication. Just imagine, crossing the Atlantic and driving in from Houston just for bbq, lol. His reasons for visiting is just a front, you know.

mlm - Thanks for reviving this thread. I really want to go to Lockhart for barbecue.

With your proximity, a Brisket & Hot Link of the Month thread is a possibility.

Hi, Jim
Nice to meet you! I'm a long time lurker of Road Food but only just recently remembered how to sign in so this is only my third reply. Ironically, I really don't like to cook but I love to read about 'real' food like road food, rather than haute cuisine, and love to read other people's accounts of their adventures so I keep after the trip reports. Due to budget and health restrictions, I don't get to eat as much bbq as I'd like but I have eaten at City Market in Luling and Black's in Lockhart and like both quite well. There's another place in Lockhart I've liked but memory fails me but I'll supply the name if I think of it. I loooovvvveeee dairy products so I really like the Wisconsin accounts. I see the Carolinas are known for soul food, general southern cooking and BBQ. Yum, yum but have I overlooked anything?

@mim. There are really only two other BBQ places worth their smoke in Lockhart you could of mentioned.
1. Kreuz BBQ.
2. Smitty's

Twinwillow, I do remember Kreuz's and Smitty's. They both have good reputations. However, I have never happened to eat at either one so I did not mention them. I will mention, that I understand they are both more of the old 'meat market' school while Black's and City Market have sides and sauces. I'll eat anywhere that the food is good but I see from the reviews and reports that some roadfooders have very strong feelings about the kind of barbeque place they prefer to visit. So I thought I'd mention it.
