This coming January the Travel Channel will premier a new 5 part series. They will count down 101 great places to eat. There will be hot dog joints, including Jimmy Buff's.

its about time they come out with a new show about something interesting like this.
I just hope they don't have someone annoying hosting it.

The Travel Channel usually does a good job on the production of these shows. I'm assuming it'll be in the same vein as the "... Paradise" (Hamburger Paradise, Hot Dog Paradise, etc) shows. They have that generic narrator, not a host. Should be good.

- I'm sure that you're correct; many of the places shown will have been on many different shows as well as featured on this website.  But I think they will be able to add new depth and hopefully showcase some foods at each place that haven't been talked about as much.  I'm certainly looking forward to watching.

The Travel Channel makes an attempt to seek out spots that aren't the same old places. Usually you see Nathan's, Pink's, and Rutt's Hut featured when it comes to hot dogs, but the Travel Channel featured Jimmy Buff's, a restaurant specializing in a regional specialty not particularly well known outside of New Jersey.

The potential is certainly there.  While they do hit the cliched places, I'm a little surprised that Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives as well as Man vs. Food and maybe a couple other shows, visit a number of good places that haven't been beaten to death on TV.

I agree. I think they do a reasonable job of highlighting the obvious ones as well as lesser known spots. I would say considering their mother networks that they do a good for the smaller places.

You're wrong there, sk bob.  While there may be some overlap, there are places on the first episode that haven't been covered, and it's not a compendium of old shows.  Besides, there's 81 one more places to go, so I don't know how you could make an assessment based upon one show.

John Fox, I saw you at Buff's.  Was that the same review that was shown on HD Paradise?

Yes and no. There was a lot of footage shot the day that the Travel Channel was at Jimmy Buff's. Not all was used. There was some new stuff on the latest show that wasn't aired on Hot Dog Paradise.

Hot Dogs make up only one part of the types of locations covered in the scheduled stops. BBQ, Diners, Bakeries, Mexican and other international types and even Ice Cream Parlors are found on the list. It does move rather quickly. But you can find a list of locations and even some 'sub-ratings' on their website.

Just spent five hours watching this for the first time.  While too many of the selections were based on places serving grossly large portions, and others were the knee-jerk choices such as Pat's and Geno's in Philadelphia - and the producers seemed particularly turned on by really big burritos - I saw a number of places I didn't know about and others I have heard of but never visited.  For me, time well spent.
