I was amazed to read of the 30% increase in business last year, because the current owners of the Loveless have, IMO, ruined the place. When I had breakfast there in the fall of '08, the country ham and blackberry preserves were just sad, mediocre versions of what I've had there in the past ( management has gotten really stingy with the biscuits too. )

Dining at the Loveless before venturing southbound on the Natchez Trace on your motorbike is a time honored tradition. Duhhh, of course I didn't find out about it till after my second trip.

It may be a time-honored tradition, but it sure isn't the exemplary roadfood experience that it used to be.

Its always amazing when something like this happens. In my work, which is not a food business, we use an item whose ownership has changed hands. And the product is not as good as it used to be. The name is the same, the packaging is similar but it doesn't work as well as it used to . Luckily for me I was able to buy a bunch of older pieces on ebay and stockpile them . Too bad you can't do that with biscuits.

Loveless Cafe is very overated.  One critic gave them a review and that is all it took.  The quality is not there and  it has just become so commercialized.  It is all about making money with them.

I'm not so quick to shovel the dirt on the ole Loveless.  I ate there on a Friday in October for lunch with extended family.  Everything we had was great. The biscuits that came out by the platter (we were a large group) were served with good preserves.  The combo platter I had (meatloaf, country ham and barbeque) was fabulous with the mac and cheese and greens as my sides.  My sisters tried the catfish and the fried chicken.  My niece had chicken pot pie and my other niece had vegetable plate.  We had about all the veggie combos available.  The meal was great!  That is not the say the kitchen might need to be cleaned up,  but I didn't eat there.  The dirtiest kitchen I ever worked in was the country club where I once washed dishes.
