Crabill's - Fri, 02/26/10 1:20 PM

I just noticed something in the posted review of Crabill's that should be corrected. When they first put the balls of ground beef onto the griddle they put them on the right side where there is less grease, and as they cook they then move them over to the left side where the grease is deeper, not the other way around. The photos with the review have it right.

One other thing, prices have gone up. Hamburgers now cost 65-cents each and cheeseburgers go for 70-cents.

And boy, that Stewart's root beer is terrific!

Oh Crabils......Such fond memories. It can be impossible to get in the place at around 11:30 or 12. Thinking about it I can actually hear my arteries hardening. Great place if it goes up for sale I will buy it...Russ

This  is one of my most favorite Roadfood places in the world.  Because of what it is, I  chose this as my #! place for hamburgers ,  with Peter Luger, a distant second!

Are you sure you want to handle the 50-some mile one-way commute every day?

I would serve a quality dog and breakfast. The 50 mile drive wouldn't bother me. This will be the first year in 2 decades that I did not drive 60 thousand miles. I would also clean the place, replace the sit down counter and the stools. I would not touch the griddle or the way they make the burgers...Russ

It isn't even in a good location. The parking lot is poor. And the place packs them in.

In other words, you want to ruin the place.

Fascinating!

I said I wouldn't change the Hamburgers at all. The stools are loose to the floor. And the counter is more like a piece of plywood. I wasn't calling for anything major. Don't you think a quality Hot Dog cooked in that wading pool of grease would be good? They serve a Hot Dog now but its not a very good one. Sorry but I would serve a top notch Detroit Style Coney along side the Historical Crabils Hamburger....Russ

I think my comment about the location was taken out of context. I would not move the place. It was a statement that with the parking lot access and its location Crabils still does a great business. Moving it would be out of the question. Crabils is my favorite Hamburger in Ohio.

Crabill's is more than a place to get a hamburger, it's tradition and history. Making any changes, including the stools, would destroy what Crabill's is.

I eat at  Crabills every time I'm in Urbana if possible - rather artery clogging but I love' em just the same.

Two other old tme (1930's) hamburger eateries worth visiting , if your in the area , are The Spot Restaurant in downtown Sidney Ohio and K's Hamburger Shop in downtown Troy Ohio - both are about a half hour drive from Urbana and are a cardiologists nightmare !
