Mom's Bake at Home Pizza is the best pizza I have ever had, period.  They have a few locations around Philly.  The original (and the office) is on Main Street in Manayunk.  "Mom" runs that and she's still behind the counter most days.  Her son operates the store on the Main Line and other family members have some other locations around town.  When mom is trying out new recipes, she often will take samples to some of the nearby shops - especially the Style of Man barber shop where all the "stylists" are very attractive young women.

Mom had a heart attack a few years ago and since then she has been working on making heart healthy pizza.  All fresh ingredients representing a classic Mediterranean diet (whole grain crusts, virgin olive oil, cheeses and lots of veggies).  Mom puts it all together and does magic things with spices.  My favorites include: The Portabello Special. Spinach Quattro and Mykonos.   I'm partial to Mom's white sauce pies with the extra thin crust.  What Mom sells is nothing like Domino's, Papa John's or even neighborhood places in Brooklyn or New Haven.

And after Mom's people put it together, you take it home and bake it yourself.  No ovens.  No sit-down.  But directions for baking right on the box.  Once you get addicted, Mom will sell you a baking tin but you don't really need it.  She puts the pies on a big sheet of foil in the box and that's all you really need.

Go see Mom at 4452-54 Main Street in Manayunk (just East of Green Lane).  If the door is locked and you can't see anybody inside, that's the office.  Turn around and cross the street.  Mom is a few doors to your left.

If it's healthy I don't want it.

my sentiments exactly.
I've made it 53 years without worrying about healthy food. I eat what I like.

I've made it a good bit longer than that.

I dunno... whole grains, olive oil, vegetables, cheese, and spices? Sounds like pizza to me. I won't let a label influence my perception. If it tastes good, I'm in. I'll be down that way sometime in the next week and I'll try to provide a second data point. Remember, if its being healthy means I can eat another piece and the flavor is worth it, that's a win.

If that shop was in my neigborhood, I would try it for certain.  I make pizza like that at home quite often, but I don't always have an abundance of fresh veggies- or the time to make fresh whole wheat dough.  This sounds like a great idea.

Just because something is healthy, doesn't necessarily make it bad to eat

On a serious note, there are lots of things that are just naturally damn delicious AND good for you - after all, the " Mediterranean diet " is tasty & healthy all of its own accord. I know that many of us have experienced misguided awfully stodgy, soulless and/or strange tasting " worthy " attempts at certain recipes.  I would honestly say the best and healthiest pizza I'd bake at home would be made from scratch, by me. But that's because we don't have anything like the place mentioned, this side of the pond. If there was - well, I would give them a try - it does sound like they at least put some heart ( pun not intended ! )and effort into their product.

oopsie, i didn't read something correctly, so, my previous post doesn't quite apply.

pica's is already cooked for take-out or eat-in, no bring home bake-it-yourself.

marrone's in ardmore does already cooked take-out and eat-in and they do sell their sauce and dough, so you can make your own at home.

I try very hard to eat healthy. This sounds wonderful! I've lost 80 lbs., but still love my pizza.
