The girls hockey booster club is selling lutefisk brats at the Syttende Mai festival this weekend in Stoughton.  $4 apiece, there are only 100 (first year offered), and according to one person it's like eating a stick of butter.  My suspicion is that they'll sell out pretty fast so hopefully I'll have a chance to try one.
 
They're from Lake Tomahawk Meat Market, which isn't too far from forum member Seatown76 in Rhinelander.  But since he hasn't posted about them here I'm guessing he hasn't tried them.

 Please, If you survive the experience, report back on the 'lutefisk brat'. I have a hard time even considering a Lutefisk Brat much less actually eating one !  What does one use for a condiment on this???? I'm thinking that Diesel Oil might be the topping of choice??

Omigosh... this sounds ...so.... different....

I really can't wait to hear the report of anyone brave enough to try one.
I have never been brave enough to even try the mother fish.

I have doubts that Bourdain or Zimmern would even touch it.

I had one.

And then I had another.

And with no apparent ill effects, although it's only been about 90 minutes.

They look like ordinary brats and inside the texture is fairly smooth; they have a good brat flavor and since the ratio is about 3:1 in favor of pork there's nothing really "fishy" about them, although with a little concentration the lutefisk can be picked out.  Plus if they're washed down with a nice fizzy soda they can be enjoyed over and over again!

My ancestors came over from Sweden to escape lutefisk. This is just wrong!!

Frankly, I think this is a terrible thing to do to lutefisk. I mean, why would anyone want to ruin it with pork and other seasonings?

No, it was a standard brat bun.   While I was there a woman showed up to work her shift and that was her first question as well.
 
I talked with a couple of the workers and they commented that the initial batch of 100 was almost gone and that they had arranged for another shipment to be delivered on Sunday.  A couple of family members went downtown that morning and there were none available, so either the 2nd batch hadn't arrived or it had sold out already.  Apparently they proved to be quite popular and I'm sure there'll be details in this week's newspaper.

Well I am married to a Iowan farm women of German Ethnicity, we have half Norwegian grandchildren and I am a simple New Englander.  All I wanted to try for Christmas was that grand dish called Lutefisk!  Well my better half looked at me as she had never done before, I really think she wanted to commit me for even thinking this.
 
Well once up in Wisconsin I asked her Dairy farming cousin about lutefisk, he said: "It could be worse, use a lot of butter with it".
 
Still have not tried the Great Scandia dish. Someday maybe if I get to Valhalla!

Hey Brad, I just ran across this thread for some reason it slipped right by me. I was just up there a couple weeks ago for my regular jerky fix. Lucky me that its only 20 minutes or so away from me.

I have not tried the Lutefisk Brats but am willing to try them. My favorite are the regular or the green and gold brats that have jalapeno and cheddar!
