I saw them at a NYC Stop and Shop supermarket last week, but wasn't going straight home so could not sample. I have not had them yet, but have had Real Kosher's "999" brand hot dogs and they are excellent  hot dogs. 999 products are Glatt Kosher, bought by people who won't buy non-Glatt brands such as Hebrew National.

I've seen these in Wegmans. A friend of mine told me to save my money; that they aren't good. Guess I'll have to try them for myself next time I'm in Wegmans. Pretty close to summer which means they will be stocking Sahlens soon.

Bought a package of the Lower East Side Kosher hot dogs at Stop and Shop on Sunday, also @ 5 for $5.49, 12 ounce package. Real Kosher seems to be making them for Toronto-based Baldwin Street Kosher:

Their unfinished website:

These hot dogs use quality cuts of beef. However, the spice mixture is one I associate more with knockwurst, leberkase, or bologna. While there is no garlic listed on the label, the third ingredient listed after beef and water is corn syrup solids.

I think part of the problem is that people who see the words Lower East Side on the label are expecting a certain flavor profile. The flavor profile suggests Chicago or Milwaukee  rather than the Lower East Side in NYC. Marketing. Gotta love it.

These franks are lower in fat and salt than most. Try a package with an open mind. You might enjoy the taste of the spice mixture they are using.

I tried mine recently. I thought the taste was somewhat smokey. I prefer a garlicy taste.
