Labor Day Sunday?  And I assume the second "B" in "BYOB" doesn't stand for "Booze" (although I suppose it could be that, too).

Really?  No pies at all?

How strange...I already had Labor Day Sunday marked on my calendar!

Will there be a Brat throwdown like last year? Maybe some saguaro-roadrunner Brats to shake things up a bit? Do they even have Brats in Arizona?

No organized bracket or restrictions on brat varieties this year.  Bring enough of your favorite brats to feed your party, then trade with others to pick your own best.  That's the BYOB

Pecan Passion.

Walnut Fig Tart with Ancho Chiles and Lemon Bars.

Brownies and Over the Top Caramel Candy Bars.

Summer Berry Crumble Bars and Chocolate Raspberry Bars.

We don't need no stinking pie ...

Hmm. When Buddy shows up here I'll try to remember to give him a few pounds of brats from the Bratwurst Capital of the World, Bucyrus, Ohio, to bring to your challenge.

I will do my part and bring home the bac...er, brats.  Michael, I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a bratwurst today.  That is to say, I will happily pay you for a couple of pounds of Bucyrus Brats when I see you in August.  Firm dates still pending, but sometime in that last week leading up to Labor Day.

And yeah, if you've got those Caramel Candy Bars and the Chocolate Raspberry Bars, I guess we don't need any pie...

Is this to prevent anyone from Pittsburgh showing up?  I sure do wish I could be there, but already have plans to be in the South.  Have a great time and I look forward to the report!

Thank you Michael!  Keep them frozen until we meet up.  I'll have a cooler and some ice packs ready to go.

JRP-If you're serious about that pie on request thing, I had an inspiration about a week ago for a new pie-Bananas Foster Pie!  The traditional recipe, seen here, calls for sliced bananas flambeed in butter, brown sugar, banana liqueur, dark rum, and cinnamon.  The resulting product is then spooned over vanilla ice cream.  Not sure how that would translate into a pie, but if anyone can figure it out, it is The Pie Diva herself.  If this is not possible for Brat Fest, maybe for next summer's Smoke Day.

Buddy,

Unfortunately, Bananas Anything Pie is likely to attract a certain unsavory element to the party, if you get my drift.  We'll keep this on the DL and I'll make your pitch to the Pie Diva.  With this and the Pig's Brain, we are starting to get quite a list of non-pie pies for the menu.

Buddy,

Unfortunately, Bananas Anything Pie is likely to attract a certain unsavory element to the party, if you get my drift...

Unwashed biker monkeys riding Japanese motorcycles instead of good, upstanding, Wisconsin made Harleys?

Um, I'm not sure I do get get your drift JRP.  I have been told by my wife, who pays attention to such things, that bananas are not especially favored by The Pie Diva, but I don't quite follow how that relates to the "unsavory element".  Is the unsavory element The Pie Diva herself?  Does the presence of bananas change her usual endearing self into some kind of vicious Mr. Hyde persona?

If that is the case, then I certainly don't want to contribute to that disintegration of character; I can get my bananas, Foster and otherwise, elsewhere.  I prefer The Pie Diva in her natural, pleasant state, undisturbed by yellow tropical (and possibly tarantula bearing) fruit.

A variety of bars, chocolate, berry, lemon, what have you, will suffice nicely, thank you.

Buddy

Cliff is an unwashed biker monkey?  It never ceases to amaze me how much you learn about your fellow Roadfooders when you follow these threads on a regular basis.

Now that I know, Cliff, next time I'm in Pittsburgh I will be sure bring plenty of bananas.

I'm heading to Bucyrus this afternoon to pick up the winning brats for delivery to Buddy when he's here.

I might even stop at G&R Tavern in Waldo for a fried bologna sandwich on the way.

UPDATE

Three pounds of bratwurst from Carle's in Bucyrus, Ohio are now resting comfortbly in my freezer. One pound stays here.

Last year was the Big Wally, is this the Big Buddy?

Nope, an offering from a 1960's outdoors cookbook, the Paul Bunyan Frank.  Bon App├ętit.

Buddy Roadhouse - If it's not too much trouble to stop in Hudson, a visit to RJ's Meats would be appreciated.  One pound of their Grand Champion Brats for me.  One pound of their Grand Champion Brats for Michael.  I'll reimburse you next time we cross paths.

Jim,

Only problem is, I'll be passing through Hudson after 7:30-8:0pm on Sunday night.  I'm guessing RJ's will be long closed by the time we get there.

In fact, I'm still not sure how we'll keep those Bucyrus brats cold all the way back to Chicago.  Don't worry, we'll figure it out once I get the specifics for that trip from my Ohio distributor.

The cherry berry pie is phenomenal, as was the peach butterscotch. That one with the sugar baked into the crust before she puts the filling in is TO DIE FOR.

Anybody interested in some of the HOTTEST, SPICIEST, Hungarian brats that exist?  My husband had a deer processed and made into mostly hungarian brats.  We get them every year and they are spicy, but not unedible....until this year.  One bite and you can't stand it.  My husband is someone who orders everything at any restaurant "as spicy as you can possibly make it" and doesn't flinch.  He can't even handle these gut bombs.  Anybody game for this?  I can send on dry ice......

Who made them?

They were made by Detjen's Meats in Watertown, WI.  They have excellent sausage, but this batch appears to have been somewhat of a mistake from the amount of HOT seasoning in it.

You're in the Falls, why not stop by? I bet if JRPfeff grills them, then cuts them into slices on toothpicks, people would eat them.

I can bring the toothpicks!!!

iris, how dare I forget about the bacon baklava? HOW DARE I???!?!?!?

These things are so hot, I'm afraid to even put them in my vehicle.  You may want to search the web for toothpicks made of Kryptonite.  I swear these things took the finish off my silverware.

MFL loves hot things, I bet he can eat at least half of one.

stricken, I've never found anything too hot however it still has to taste good.
That leaves Dave's Insanity out of my diet. I make my own Scotch Bonnet/Habanero hot sauce that I eat almost daily but it is delicious. If those brats are hot but bitter or unbalanced in taste, I'll leave them for the Man vs Food dude. I'm not willing to brave a sore afterburn the next day unless I like the taste, ya know.

Looks like I'll be calling in Adam Richman.  The brats are a little heavy on paprika as well as plain old hotness.

Anybody got his number?

Miesfeld's has mushroom swiss. Would anyone besides me eat one?

I'll trade you straight up a plain brat from Roscoe's Country Sausage in Phillips.

They still have meat in them, right?  They're not one of those Commie vegetarian brats, are they?

Just for that I may sneak in a Boca brat & see if anyone notices...
