2010 Roadfood Tour: New Mexico - Tue, 07/27/10 5:57 AM
0
September 17 & 18, Friday and Saturday, Roadfood.com is coming to devour New Mexico. Based in Albuquerque, the tour will take participants to Santa Fe, to the New Mexico State Fair, to the chile fields of the Mesilla Valley and to a visit with Dr. Paul Bosland, Chileman Supreme. Of course, we will be eating all along the way, from the legendary sweet rolls at the Frontier Cafe to green chile cheeseburgers and banquets of only-in-New Mexico cuisine. For details about each restaurant we'll visit, check out this eating tour. For information about the bus trip and to purchase tickets, click here.

Michael & Stephen -

The tour looks fantastic!  The promo stuff is especially mouth watering!  Already got airfare and a car lined up...just waiting for High Noon!

Thanks for all your efforts in coordinating this event!

CTD-
Love that enthusiasm!

Cousin Johnny and I will be there.  Time to start looking for flights.  Based on the itinerary, this should be the best tour yet!

What a wonderful line up! I've been to 8 of the places on the list and loved them all. I wish I could attend. This is going to be a fun, fun tour.

Would love to join in the festivities as I've only been to NM once and it was for 24 hrs!  However, I am running my first half marathon in my hometown on Sept. 19th.  Devour lots of red & green chiles in my stead!

SHUCKS !! It would have to be THAT weekend...
I just booked my airline ticket to AUSTIN for the Texas Monthly BBQ Festival, which is on Sun. Sept. 19th....(thanks to Roadfooder "Signman" giving me the heads up on that)

Flying into Austin a day early on Sat....
mmmmmmm, maybe  I can figure something out, and squeeze in BOTH,
but it's going to be so tough cuz I may have to call out from work on Saturday, as it is ; tough getting days off in Sept., due to our big World Poker Tour tourney ....

mmmmm, maybe I can drop AUSTIN altogether for a chance to hang with the Sterns again, and have my very 1st BOBCAT BURGER?!???

feedback, please !!!

We were in New Mexico in April. In September we will be up on the Minnesota North Shore since I took on the task of hosting a Class B camper van rally.

ChiTownDiner  a ROOKIE ?!?  I'm calling your BLUFF !
Only when it comes to GREEN CHILE CHEESEBURGERS are you a ROOKIE!  (me , too, I"m a green chili burger virgin)

But, when it comes to Roadfood.com tours, I believe you  were with me on  the NASHVILLE tour, (and perhaps  the AUSTIN  one, TOO )
right  in front of me in line at the HENPECK MARKET for our PIMENTO CHEESE sandwiches ....

Which begs the Question----I wonder what a cheese sandwich like Henpeck's would taste like if you substituted Green Chilies for the Pimentos????
Please note: I just became a Roadfood Insider after all these years in order to get dibs on the tickets! (Plus all the other benes!)

Missed #1 by a mile but Got # 2 Correct! Close, but no cigar!

Google knows EVERYTHING!
The State of New Mexico no longer recognizes concealed carry licenses issued by the State of Utah but currently has a written reciprocity agreement in place with Texas. New Mexico Department of Public Safety is reevaluating the status of eighteen other states currently recognized on an informal basis, with the intent of entering into written agreements with these states to ensure compliance. These states are: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wyoming

I thought so too until something came up, that's why I delegated my responsibility to you --in case. And yes, I still know how to pronounce "Stillers"! Back in the '50s & 60's, I spent several years watching Stillers games at Forbes Field, where every seat was guaranteed to be right behind a steel girder! Bobby Lane would show up drunk as a skunk and QB a win and Big Daddy Lipscomb, a man of insatiable appetites: for women, liquor and, apparently, drugs would crush the Hated Browns!

OK, I am seriously thinking about making the trek to NM. My trajectory will be parallel to the trip but not tamp down INNIT. Are drop ins welcome? What I mean is if I'm going to Santa Fe to visit a friend, would we be able to hook up at certain points & join in on the Roadfood festivities?

Hello everybody, I'm a Roadfood n00b who has occasionally used the site to get recommendations for occasional travels. This year I was determined to go eat my way around New Mexico sometime during September, so I went to the site just to see what you guys said was on the must-eat list -- needless to say I was pleasantly surprised at the news of the NM Tour, and signed up immediately. I'm looking forward to the meeting/greeting/eating!

cheers, William

Thanks for the quick welcome!

Is Bill's as good as ever? I honestly would say "no," but my history with Bill's goes back to the late 70s. The burgers are much bigger now and the crust-to-interior ratio is lower, and it was that maillard-crusty patty that made the burger great, imo. My fondest local burger memories aren't from Bill's, but from a place in Aberdeen called the Hamburger House, which I went to often in the mid to late 70s. Crusty and delicious like Bill's, but moreso. Sadly gone now.

I have friends and relatives who say that Country Boy Burgers, across the street from Bill's, is the better burger, but I haven't checked them out. They've only been open for 25 years or so...I'm waiting for them to settle in and for their grill to get good and seasoned.

Indian Market is a HUGE event with people having either standing reservations or have booked a year in advance. People come from all around the world for this, it's a major buying trip for those interested in Native American arts.

Ellen...did you decide?

My JOB decided FOR me, as I got turned down for my request for those extra days off (due to our 3 week "world poker tour" tourney)

...(and as it IS, I'm  probably calling  out from work from Sept. 19th-22nd, for my Austin BBQ trip....
(cuz I could'nt get those days off, either, but I can squeeze in a few call outs....)

I'll be looking forward to seeing some nice Santa Fe trip reports, though!  I will be with you in SPIRIT!

Ellen -

We'll miss you...I'll have an extra green chili cheeseburger for you at Bobcat Bite!

And if that illness should strike a little early...I can muster up an excuse for you!

Is everyone staying at the Sheraton? As much as I appreciate the arrangements made for a special rate, it looks like a budget motel and a cab ride could save me much of the cost of the day's eating.

On past trips, the group is split with about 60-70% staying at the group hotel.  I beleive anyone can stay where ever they like.

Personally, I am staying at the Sheraton.  See you in ABQ!

I really doubt you can save much money with cab rides going back and forth.

Pixel Farmer-
In the past, I have stayed at an off site hotel and at the recommended hotel and I much prefer the convenience of the latter.  Besides, it is always lots of fun to run into other Roadfooders in the lobby.

Cousin Johnny and I are staying at the Sheraton.

Under three weeks to go....starting my planning this weekend....it'll go something like this - fly in - eat - fly out.   Perhaps some time for sleep...maybe!
