Another list printed to generate discussion.

Okay, here goes:

What, no Stroud's in Kansas City?

No Belgrade Gardens in Barberton, Ohio?

I'm not denying the legitimacy of the other places listed, I'm just saying the authors may have missed a few worthwhile spots.

That's a top 10 list without Gus' World Famous Fried Chicken in Memphis, TN.  How can you list two places out of 10 that only serve FS one day a week.

David -

I already knew the answer.  The point I was (apparently too subtly) trying to make was that if one is intent on stealing someone else's work, the least they could do is quote the source.

yeah, when quoting a published source, the source should be credited and (if possible, as in this case) linked dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot

This person, Littleman, puts many lists and places on many roadfood threads. I questioned him/her on another thread about how they accumulated this mass of knowledge. They did not respond. It would be almost impossible for him/her to have personal experience at all the places they have listed.

Been to Roscoe's many times.  It's just okay.

Excellent fried chicken at the chain El Compero

Think I'll have some for lunch!

Another place was a gas station somewhere in South Carolina

Freddie Mae's in Fontana is excellent. It's right on Route 66.

Littleman,
Tell us who you are and how/where you get your info. If you cut & paste that's Ok. Just acknowledge that's what you're doing and identify your sources. Either that or expect that anything you post will be disregarded.

You are threatening me.  If you want to disregard my posts that's perfectly fine with me.  99% of the information I post is from my personal files from experiences during my lifetime.  I do cut and paste from time to time.  I will identify any future C&P's by their source.

It is actually a violation of copyright law to cut and paste without attribute. And there are law firms right now scouring the internet to file nuisance lawsuits against blogs and forums that are not following accepted format, which is to post a paragraph or summation, then a link. It's called "copyright trolling".

http://www.wired.com/thre...-trolling-for-dollars/

So, go ahead and get all indignant about being called for posting that as if it were your own. Or, pay attention and do it right. No difference to me.

You returned to this thread to complain about being threatened, and say you will put in the crediting information, and yet, you still have not edited the opening post of this thread to add said info?

Keep in mind that the folks who will sue (if any) for copyright violation probably wont go after you, but after the Sterns instead dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot

TJ, that is actually correct; notice toward the end of the article, one of the targets IS a forum.

This type of suit is never intended to go to trial; its intent is to churn money. Settlement offers are in the $1500-$3500 range; about the same cost to defend, for a lot less hassle. Just enough to hurt, without crippling. You can pay, and appear in court, and maybe lose anyhow; or you can pay. It will get your attention, for sure.

I read the article too Mosca. The one against the Above Top Secret website doesn't stand a chance under the DCMA. There's a big difference between hosting, originating and receiving. The host of a website would be indemnified by the posting of user content so long as they are given the opportunity to remove the material via a Cease and Desist demand letter. If they don't take action or respond, they are wide open to a civil demand as I understand it. In the case of P2P networks it would be the same. The originator and the receiver have broken the law, not the host. In the case here, I can only see the originator as the one liable.

How do you post original information off another site to this one to make it legal.

I know, Dawn, But again, the amount is just small enough to make it a tough decision; $2000 to defend, or $1500 to make it go away?

Littleman: Quote the first paragraph, then insert the URL as a link. If you don't know how to do that, google it.

Or defend it yourself for free and ask for a jury trial...

99 and 9/10% (possibly even 100%)  of the time juries are savvy enough to smell a rat- most would see right through the debacle especially if they see you defending yourself- and most likely render a defense verdict in a matter of minutes (or even seconds)
