LA's venerable Clifton’s Cafeteria saved by new owner

Will be open 24/7, with new bars, in addition to dining. Not clear if menu or beloved dining room setting will fundamentally change. Although Clifton's adjoins LA's traditional skid road, the neighborhood has been changing, as new "hip" residential and office settings develop. Moreover, Clifton's remains just two blocks from LA's financial or corporate center. Zagat.com article: http://blog.zagat.com/shi..rs-dish-saving-cliftons

Many fond memories of the annual Christmas shopping trips into downtown L A that would include the 'Tropical Paradise Lunch' at Clifton's!

An update on Clifton's closure received from it via email today: "Mr. ______, our cafeteria and bakery are currently closed for remodeling, we should reopen in about 6-9 months. We are only open on the second Thursday of each month for Artwalk, we have an art gallery and a bar, but no food."

Ahh, Clifton's. I remember it well as an 18 year old kid living in the downtown YMCA ($1.50 a night) while trying to become an actor back in 1958. We'd all go to Cliftons and they'd stamp your hand so you could go for more food without paying another .98 cents. Didn't wash that hand for 3 days!
