That's a great article. Very interesting take on local history spanning and connecting three generations. Hey, you don't look so chubby.

Congratulations on a great article! Hey, speaking of Nancypalooza's reference, were you the kid Chewy on Leave It To Beaver?

MellowRoast Congratulations on a great article! Hey, speaking of Nancypalooza's reference, were you the kid Chewy on Leave It To Beaver? No but I idolized Eddie Haskell! " Well hello Mrs. Cleaver, you look like you just got your hair done!"

Nice Story, Tom. I am glad you held off on your venture into BBQ until you left SoCal. Maryland needs you.

Further to my post about watching the story on "Biography" of how Frank Purdue started his chicken business after WWI. According to (the eggs came before the chickens) the bio, Frank Purdue was actually very successful all during the depression years. And was second only to Tyson (the largest in the USA) in size.

mar52 Very nice and very interesting! Great memories. Did I know that we were neighbors? So tell me about your disposable pen! I named it "The Inscriber", .69 C fine point, .59 C medium point, I designed the pen and had it manufactured at the Heartley Pen Company in Costa Mesa. I had an office in Westwood, anywhere from 30-40 Telemarketers, calling every school in the Country, sold them to the Principals, in bulk, for their bookstores or many of them gave them out, I don't know what they did with all of them, we sold millions of them, at .18C each. We also sold Fine Line Markers, Jumbo Markers, Overhead Projection Markers, Liquid Crayons, and Pencils. I started Liberty Supply Company in 1973, I was 27, single, living LARGE, in Paradise, ie. 100 or so Stewardesses, every square foot, between PdR, and MdR, not to mention Manhatten and Redondo Beaches. I stayed single till age 37, no one blamed me!
