What is your opinion on Cheddar's?

We have a fairly new Cheddar's that has opened up here in Huntsville, AL. I have been four times and like it very much. Their prices are very reasonable. I asked our server why they were so reasonable and he said that they eliminate the middle man as much as they can and that the food is prepared in house (batters, etc.).

I have had the Monte Cristo sandwich, the burger twice (very good), and steak and ribs combo. I was pleased with all my orders and the service was very good. I like that their appetizers are plentiful and priced well. The onion rings are $3.99 and they are very tasty and are piled high.

The grandkids like going there as they have a very wide variety of food to choose from, plus its a good place to go with friends.

We have gone to Cheddar's in Peoria Illinois a number of times and it was decent but much like a Chillis/TGIFriday. Reasonable prices and always busy when we went. For whatever reason they closed that location a few years ago.

We used to have one here, but after the second (third?) time the building burned down they opted not to rebuild.  IIRC, it was a perfectly serviceable burger place but nothing overly special.  Usually found in shopping mall parking lots if that tells you anything.

We visit the Clarksville, IN Cheddars when we shop over in that area.   For us the Catfish Dinner is the menu item at the top of our list. Great Battered Catfish, a Huge portion, so big that we  take home some each time...and Only $8.95.  I mention the dinner portion because they offer a Lunch portion for $6.95. Lunch has four pieces of fish, while the dinner has at least 8 pieces.  I usually take home 2 or 3 from the dinner and make a fish sandwich with the leftovers.
Side dishes...most of the usual, but the Red-Beans and Rice is really a gumbo and if served HOT not warm is outstanding.
As mentioned the O R are heavy but good as long as you get them fresh and hot and chow down fast enough that they don't cool off!
We did not like the Chicken/County fried steak, and the Philly Steak sandwich also did not settle well.  The club sandwich is a winner and so are the MR Burgers !
We give Cheddars a good B to B+ grade for an inexpensive meal. Our bill averages about $25 for the two of us with tea to drink and some Rings before... not counting tip.

I am glad that Al gave it a thumbs up.  They opened a new one pretty close to my residence and everytime I have passed it, it appeared packed.  I was reluctant to stop but now I will thanks to Al's thoughts.  Catfish sounds very good to me.

The first Cheddars that I know of in the Kansas City area opened exactly 1 year ago.  I've taken the family there a few times.  I would rate it 3.5/5 stars.  The food and service are pretty good, but nothing really special or over the top.
Oh!  I think their spinach & artichoke dip is some of the best I've ever had .  Now if they would only bring back their mud pie for dessert ...

About six or seven years ago I had lunch at the Peoria location that kland01s mentioned. The food was mediocre and the service was even worse. Based on my experience there, that was and shall continue to be my only visit to a Cheddar's restaurant.

I must live a sheltered life. Never heard of them until this thread. None in AZ yet.

Been at Cheddar's since early '98 in Beaumont Tx. Think they only had 4 then but a good medium
between Out Back and O'Charlies. More family oriented. They came to Tampa (Brandon Area ) in '02
and growing since. Had an Escort that always took me there. Loved sitting at the Bar, Steak, there Onion String fries and  TX Green Beans.
For a chain give a thumbs up. Steak and a Shiner Bock or 6. Many a nights there.

My wife really liked the chicken pot pie there. We don't have one in the area we now live so I don't know if they still serve that.

The Chicken Pie is on the menu. Jan tried it awhile back and found it was good...but very shallow...meaning a big flat crust with only 3/4 inch of chicken-filling under the crust. Disappointing, because what was there was good, just not worth the $7.95 or so it was listed at.
We pretty much stay with the Catfish with Red Beans(gumbo) and Onion Rings for the sides.

When we lived in Kingsport, Tn it was one of the most popular "after Church" restaurants. From about 12 noon till 2 pm on Sunday you couldn't get near the place.

I haven't been out that way in ages, but it used to sit in the Woodland Mall parking lot on the East Beltline side.

There's one about to open very near my house and I must live uinder a rock as I had not heard of them until I saw the construction sign go up.  I will check it out but usually tend to avoid chains like that.

I would compare them to 'Bombay Bicycle Club' or Mimi's or some of the other chains that would rank one step about TGI Fridays, and O'charleys etc etc. SSDD

we love cheddar's, they have a great veggie plate for my kids and I love the monte Cristo, and the dijon chicken. They also have to die for croissants
