Paul, Lots of apples in the stores...but the one that really works for us is the Arkansas Black. If it ripens in late August like it is supposed to, you can expect good crisp apples till after the first of the year if you refrigerate them. They have the best shelf-life of any apples we've grown. Granny Smiths are right up there too !

Al, did you get turned on to Arkansas Black at Carvers Orchard in Tennessee? I was there a few weeks ago and I guess it was late October. There was still Arkansas Black on the trees. Perhaps they were late coming in this year. The owner told me that was one of their best sellers but they did not have that many trees and they sold out quickly.
Nothing like the smell of apple pie and cobbler in the over.
