Re:Is "Locally Grown" Locally Grown?
In the town where I grew up, an enterprising "farmer" had his little corn stand at an easy cross-road. Surrounding it were about 10 acres of luscious corn and people would drive miles to get it and rave about it. Too bad they weren't there at 3-4AM to see the trucks from Boston unloading their boxes and then hightailing it out before sunrise, taking their now-empty boxes with them.
In a nearby state to the one I live in now, there's a wonderful Apple Orchard that offers all sorts of goodies. Too bad the property borders one of the more nasty super-sites.
Local, native, organic, farm-raised(where else would you raise them?.an NYC skyscraper?), fresh-caught, diverboat, all-natural, re-cycled (BTW.OIL IS recycled! It once was plants and animals! And oil is used in plastics.) etc, etc. Nice terms but....try and use a little common sense. The only worse thing is when we have the government attempting to codify those terms and having control over them. Just what we need are huge teams of "definers" followed by overkill in enforcement.
