I went with cream or custard filled because eclairs are filled. I don't care for the fried dough doughnut, a la Krispy Kreme. I'm more inclined to the cake kind for regular doughnuts, except I do love eclairs and apple fritters!

I gotta agree with you about apple fritters.  Our local donut shop sells an apple fritter for 95 cents and it's about the size of a large salad plate with lots of crispy nooks, crannies, and edges and the inside is moist and tender with lots of apple pieces.

Custard filled eclairs and apple fritters for the non-holey sort most definitely.

Cake and cinnamon crumb otherwise or anything else if the top 3 choices are not available.

I recently learned about maple bars.  Why had I never tried them before?

I like a cake donut with an icing glaze. Circle K here I come! My all-time favorite is the Original Dunkin' Donut with the little knob on it. When they franchised out here in AZ, the stores here don't make it and I haven't been able to get an answer why they don't.

I like a jelly filled - I also like jelly filled holes.

I also like boxed doughnuts...like Freihofers - the chocolate covered and cinnamon. Freihofers made those chocolate covered mini-donuts. Also, a good treat. Freihofers, since bought by some larger corp, doesn't make the dougnuts anymore - that was taken over by the competitor and now other subsidiary, Entemann's...which I occasionally get, but pretty rare.

OHHH!!!!!! Headlights! Gosh, those were good...like an eclair, but round and the filling was on top...like a headlight. I also was a fan of the fruit on top headlights. great doughnuts.
Man, soooo many great bakeries in Syracuse area growing up. Williams Grocer, Harrison Bakery, Community Bakery, ....sometime ago I had a list of the great Syracuse bakeries I posted somewhere. There just aren't bakeries like those here in DC. Now it's the cupcake fad. Cupcakeries, if you will

Mar, Joyce & Mollie can't walk by a bakery without buying a Maple bar. We used to make them at one or our accounts that liked morning sweets. You should see how good they are fresh made and warm. ......................How could Maple topping on a donut be wrong........

I went with glazed.  Preferably from Crispy Cream in Chilicothe, OH (yes with a C and in no way affiliated with the other one and they are 10 times better).

Also, we've been having this ongoing debate with friends about powdered donuts.  Our friends love them and can eat the better part of a bag from hostess in one sitting.  My wife and I do not even consider them to be donuts and think they should be in their own category.  Nothing is more disappointing than when someone says they'll bring donuts and they show up with powdered.  I'd like to hear other peoples thoughts on them.

It's a very thin icing thats poured over the donut. Hardly visable but just enough to give you that sweet coating. Similar to the glaze on a Krispy Kreme but not as dense.

Have you ever been in a Dunkin Donut shop?
It's their Signature Donut. It's a round Cake Donut with a little protrusion on the side of it so you can hold it easier while dunking it in your coffee, ergo a Dunkin' Donut!

Funny you should mention. DD has excellent coffee. Many people rate it higher than the beloved brew of the PNW - Starbucks. AND it's cheaper too!
Dippin' a Dunkin Donut in DD Coffee is one of those Unami experiences!
