I'm in with a friend.  This is my first trip.  I was able to purchase on the first day.  Now I need for someone to tell me what's next:  will I get an e-mail?  tickets delivered in the mail? delivered by e-mail?  when will we learn of hotel--name and rates?  I am anxious as you can see.  I also have plane tickets to Chicago.  I am ready to experience my first Roadfood trip full throttle!

Welcome, Lefty66. What's happened before is that there are no tickets, you just show up at the start of the tour and and your name gets checked off the list. If you're feeling nervous, bring a printout of your Paypal receipt. (I felt nervous for the first trip I came on, but I no longer do.)

I don't know the answer to your question about the hotel, though.

Hi Lefty - We are working out the details on the hotel, which will also be the drop-off and pick-up point.

To ease some nerves, the following is some unconfirmed information.  Let me repeat, this is not finalized...!  We are negotiating a group rate at the Holiday Inn Mart, which is in walking distance to some terrific Roadfood.  Pickup on both Friday and Saturday will be 9:30 AM, and we should return Friday night around 10:30 PM and Saturday around 5 PM.  We can't provide any further details without unveiling the surprises along the way.

Overall, everything is shaping up to be an incredible trip.

If I understand correctly, the tour members will have a private, no waiting in line audience with the Dougster himself.  There will be a prix fixe, prepaid menu featuring one of Doug's specialty gourmet encased meats and his famous duck fat fries.

Not privy to those details, but I've got to assume the tour will hit Hot Doug's as it's first stop so as not to interfere too much with his regular business hours.

Greetings All,

I need a little more information on this trip. I live in Grand Rapids MI, and would be arriving in Chicago via Amtrak. I presume that I would have to arrive on the day before as my arrival would be 11am or so in the morning. Should I make my own arrangements for Thursday night, or are there possibilities at the group hotel for an early arrival. I see I don't have much time as there are only 7 seats left! Thanks!

Welcome to Roadfood!

I'll let the folks in charge respond as they may, but in the past, the hotel was often avaiable for the night before and after for those extending their stays.

With an 11am arrival, I believe you would indeed need to arrive the day before.

Hope that helps a little!

Mary Jane Classen and Jay Olins look forward to adding more T-Shirts to my Roadfood collection. I notice that Alan on "Man vs. Food" has several of the same including RoundRock Pies. His jacket usually covers up the details, however.

We're dining at Alinea on Thursday night just in case there's not enough to eat in Milwaukee the next day.

We got our hotel rooms booked this morning.  Thanks Stephen!

I am very curious as to what will be the flavors of the day when we make our stop at Kopp's.  What always happens to me is that they will either have two flavors I love or two dogs, at least for me.  I fondly remember the day a few years ago when they had Grasshopper Fudge and Sprecher's Root Beer, two of my very favorites.  I ate a large cone of both that glorious day!

What we should do is take a vote of what flavors those of us attending would like and then petition Kopp's for those flavors.  No idea if it would work, but it would be worth trying!

I bet it would work...the next month's list usually comes out some time after the 20th...others may know the exact date.  I check every day for the September list.

I like your idea...and nominate you to be our offical Kopp's spokesperson.  Put me down for Chocolate Cherry Cookie Dough...and there's an extra slice of pie in it for you if you make it happen!!!

Kopps really ought to consider inventing a special flavor of the day in honor of the Roadfood crew. How often do they get busloads of visitors anointed by the likes of Jane and Michael Stern? Anyhow, the visit is close to Halloween, so maybe the flavors will be spooky.... Dessert will not be in short supply: don't forget that Solly's (the last stop) usually has homemade pie, and many Roadfooders will have pillaged the Elegant Farmer's selection of pies earlier in the day. And then there's the Kringle....
