Hi, I am trying to pin down my exact food costs.
I am working in excel to create one from scratch, which is fine, just curious to know if anyone has one already built out and willing to share it?
Are you trying to cost out a recipe or the total cost of a catered meal service? These are two different things.
Many of the computer Recipe programs will cost out a recipe and give the cost per serving if food cost is entered & kept up to date. But an excel sht to cost out a complete meal service will include certain amount of unused items because of the economy of buying in bulk. Granted in a restaurant these extra items or food may not be an issue if these are regularly used; but this may not be the case for catering.
So I'm not sure of what you are looking for. A good recipe program will cost out the different recipes and some will even cost out a complete meal. It just depends on how the food & cost are entered.
The excel meal service cals are more for planning the shopping list for food, service supplies, and incidentals needed to prepare the meal.
