I made a pretty awesome chicken pot pie this evening.  It was my first one but relatively easy and I could eat that once a week in the fall and winter.
I also made a really good cole slaw.  Cabbage and carrots and onion which I cut and sliced.  An apple, pecans, and some raisins along with a mayo/sour cream/splenda dressing and it was really good.

My face is swollen because I have an abcess-cant chew-so i made french onion soup, complete with gruyere, and a good crouton soaked in the soup.....
The soup sounds great but the abscess...not so much.  Hopefully it'll clear up soon!

Hope you feel better, Ann!

Hope everything went well.

Speedy, painless recovery vibes headed your way!

Thanks! It went, although what was supposed to be outpatient ended up spending last night and the better part of today in the hospital. Now I'm on such an interesting combination of narcotics that dinner tonight was leftover hamburger casserole. Which my mother heated in the microwave and brought to me in my chair. I'm not sure I know my name at the moment.

Glad to hear it's over, Felix.

Milk it for all you can.

I picked up dinner across the street at Panda Express.  Some sort of spicy chicken and a black pepper shrimp.

Had to pick out all of the whole peppercorns.  I love it ground and can't stand it in it's "round" state.

The drugs, which are only sort-of working for pain, are making me nauseous.  Dinner was a can of beef barley soup with Club crackers.

Hollow's Eve was Pan Fried Coconut Tilapia with Sweet and Spicy Apricot Sauce, Sweet and Tangy Coleslaw, Skillet corn and cornbread.  Last night was Checkers.  We were busy!

Hi Jennifer.... Welcome!

Love to see what others are having.

I had an early dinner (does that make it supper?) of Pho.

Pho with a chicken soup base with barbecued pork and shrimp.

Just got the urge for some pure and simple "Gringo Tacos" as I call them. Plain old ground beef tacos in a hard shell. About 7-8 will do!

Monday was my birthday, guess who made dinner for my partner and my sister? ME!! I made what I like, a nice boneless pork roast and roasted potatoes with a small salad.

Little better today...I slept through when I could have called the doctor's office (stupid narcotics), so I'll call Monday. Dinner was some Chef Boyardee mini ravioli and a Little Debbie oatmeal creme pie.

As it is fall, I bought acorn squash. Just like Mom did, cut it in half, added butter, brown sugar and salt and pepper( love sweet and salty) and baked for 1 hour 20 minutes. Ate both halves.....comfort food for me. Bob had leftover enchilaas. We are on such a different eating pattern!

We also had squash last week.  Went to the farm and got a butternut and I made it exactly the same way - butter and brown sugar.  Had a pork roast with it.  Tonight is pot roast.  It's nice to get back to cool weather food.

Yummy, comfort food.

I might make sardine tacos tonight.  Diced up the sardines with tomatoes and onions with a squeeze of lime and hot sauce.

I changed my mind.

I'm having to drink a minimum 64 ounces of water a day for a test and I'm freezing.

So...

Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.

It feels so good when it's right out of the pot.  Warm going down.

I bought something at the butcher shop yesterday called a pork brisket - it's only about two lbs. - nothing like a beef brisket - so I seasoned it with rub and it's been on the grill for about 45 minutes now - just kind of feeling it out and seeing what else needs to be done with it .  Also have a stuffed potato and a salad waiting.

Had a bag of weird salad fixins from Costco that my neighbor said we needed to try...  Minced Kale and a bunch of other green stuff with poppyseed dressing, pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries.

Then we also had a bag of mini tri-colored potatoes that I boiled and rolled around in olive oil and spices.

Not bad but I'm still hungry.

My mother cooked! I had to show her how to use the oven. (To be fair, we got a new digital oven not too long ago.) I'm just so darn excited I felt like eating I don't know how to act! Some kind of squash from my sister's garden stuffed with sausage, baked sweet potatoes (butter and salt only), and a piece of leftover chicken. She even cut it up for me when she brought me my plate, since I can only move closed containers around.

Sweet potatoes!  I thought it was a really strange presentation of salmon.

I had one of my favorite lazy night meals.

Fresh Wonder Bread, all beef bologna, American Cheese and yellow mustard.

Last night was leftover pot roast, potatoes, carrots, onions and lots of gravy. I'm still full. Unfortunately, there's no more left. I'm not able to stop eating bread and gravy till one or the other is gone.

I try to cook a nice dinner everynight, but it's kinda nice when I get ready to start cooking and somebody else has decided their cooking tonight!  A break!  LOL.  Tonight is sloppy joes and fries made by FFIL!  Mmmm.

BTW, Love rolls and or biscuits in gravy.  I dip KFC's biscuits in their gravy, always dip my biscuits in any gravy we have and the same goes for rolls.  Good and simple comfort!

Ohmygod, mar...I want to eat with you!!!

I spent some time figuring out how to navigate my kitchen on my knee scooter, and came up with Cajun baked fish, butterbeans, and cottage cheese. Nothing fancy, but I believe I developed a system for using my oven.

You have a knee scooter!  I saw my first one last Sunday at an art fair.  Very clever design.

Macaroni and cheese turned out good.  You never know until someone tastes it.  The pan in the picture is the small pan.  I made a larger one which got eaten.  Always better to have too much.  Guess we cab eat that one with turkey on Thanksgiving.

Feiix, you inspire me to make more fish.

Now I want gyros. Maybe on Sunday when I'm out.

I do have a knee scooter, mar! It's WAY better than dealing with crutches, since I'm not even allowed to let my foot touch the floor. I've personalized mine since I'll be on it for so long.

Dinner tonight was crock pot salsa chicken. Looks like hell, tastes amazing. You'll have that.

Sorry, that wasn't all about food. But the scooter amuses me.

Steak, loaded mashed taters, porky and well seasoned corn off the cob and cheesy garlic biscuits! I have to admit the corn may have been the highlight and so simple and yes, outta cans! Love shortcuts!

Received a coupon for El Torito which is in the Marina so we went there for dinner.

I had chicken mole enchiladas which were served with a hot (not spicy) corn and cheese salsa and black beans.  I asked for rice rather than the beans which was not a problem.

What was interesting is what was docked outside the window where we were seated:

For any of you that watch Whale Wars, this is the vigilante ship, Briget Bardot.  The picture does not do it any justice.  It was awesome.

While we were looking at it to make the experience all that much better, two dolphins surfaced for our enjoyment.

I finally had some of my favorite things.

Had another foot doctor appointment in Long Beach and as I was waiting at a red light I saw this sign:

It was in the window of a carcineria.  I parked.

You can see the taco condiments in the above picture.  I love when I can also get sliced radishes along with my tacos.

Slap tacos at their finest with REAL salsa, not that fresh, cruda stuff laden with cilantro.

From left to right...  Asada, Al Pastor and Carnitas.

The asada was the best.

I was on Atlantic Bl headed towards the coast, almost to my doctor's office which is at 1045.  It was a corner meat market on the right/north side of the street.

If you like the feeling of a place as well as the food you might try Joe Jost's.

http://www.joejosts.com/

It's a step into the past.  You can get a sandwich (I've had the liverwurst and the salami) pickled eggs and beer.  It's a fun place just for the atmosphere.  The sandwiches are only served on rye bread... the softest, freshest rye bread I've ever had.  Simple, made at home type sandwiches that go well with the beer and pretzels.  You can also buy a bag of roasted peanuts, play pool or some gave where you slide disks.  I don't know the name.

Do both!  Then let me know what you thought!
